Looking to buy a Maui Sails aluminum boom 200-250, if a sail specs call for 248 or even 250 max boom size is that cutting it too close?
If the boom is at the top of the cutout and raking down to the clew wouldn't that require a slightly longer boom or do they take that into consideration with the specifications for the sail?
And what if the sail starts to stretch out over time, could I find myself without enough outhaul?
And on the lower end of the scale, what if the sail is calling for 198 CM for instance, how much distance between the clew and the end of the boom is acceptable?

You should be okay at either end if the sail has a max specified outhaul of 250 although being aluminium (that's how we spell it ) I'd be cautious using it fully extended if you're a heavy weight. I never really fully extend my sails to max outhaul anyway and sail with negative to neutral unless I'm really overpowered.

Ok I hadn't thought of that, apparently not a good idea to fully extend the boom because it may flex too much.
If I try to spell it aluminium my spell checker says it's wrong, is Australian a different form of English?

No, American is a different form of English.

beaglebuddy, looks like maui do a alu230-280cm, that would be better.
are you trying to get a boom to fit both 198 and 248cm? probably not ideal.

Trying to fit my 6.1 all the way thru 9's which I hope to be sailing, perhaps that is asking too much?

i think so.
set at 200 would work but your 198cm clew may only need 190cm or so.
i would use it fully extended only in very light winds.
