Would you be able to help me with selecting right set boards (and sails) for next season? I've currently:
- Fanatic Gecko 133 HRS 2016
- Fanatic Hawk 113 Bamboo 2016
- NS E-type 7.8 and 6.6
- NS Supersession 5.2
I'm intermediate sailor (beyond catapult phase, waterstarting fine, trying to get carving gybes consistent) weighting 73 kg and sail in baltic sea choppy conditions 12-27kt. I'm more of a straight line sailer than bump&jump or wave, but it could be that I haven't had right equipment. Also conditions for real wave sailing is very rare in my regular spots.
My kit is perfect for around 16kt when I can use Hawk with 6.6 E-type. It's also quite ok for 20kt 5.2 with, but conditions are often starting to be too choppy for 113 liter board. For 12-14kt I usually use Gecko with 7.8. For Hawk 7.8 feels a bit too heavy. With Gecko it's ok, but a bit sluggish. For winds over 20kt I'm trying to manage with 5.2 + Hawk and planning to buy 4.4 Supersession which would fit same mast&boom.
So, in practice I'd need to better equipped for 20kt+ winds and something more exciting for lighter than 15kt. 2 board solution would be perfect, but 3 is acceptable as well.
My current plan:
- Buy RRD Freestyle Wave V5 96 to match 5.2 and 4.4 sails
- Keep Hawk 113 for 6.6 sail
- Replace Gecko with ~125-130l freerace board and match that with new ~8.2 camber sail like S-Type.
Any thoughs?
