Would you buy a great board if it looked ugly?
Go to http://www.boardseekermag.com/home.php and vote on the latest graphics. (If you're bored). Personally I thought most of them were ugly, my top picks were Angulo and Starboard. What'dya reckon?
Also to add to that, I forked out a bit of extra dosh to get the wood version of Starboard Kombat, because I loved the look.
I bought a Carbon Art SP44. I reckon its a pretty ugly looking plan shape, but then its not a beauty contest. I have got my eye on a wooden Serenity to make up for the CA's look.
i agree with you east , youd think whith all the compertition between board makers that they would be trying to make there boards stand out ,did you get a sail in yesterday andrew![]()
Yes, I would buy a great board if it looked ugly.
IMHO graphics are a waste of time and money on the part of the companies. When was the last time you were ripping along and looked down at your board and said to yourself, damn, those are fine looking graph... CATAPULT!
All I want on a deck is non skid like 200 grit sandpaper.
thats good easty, speeking of non slip my new carves already worn away next to the mast base ,any idears how to fix
does angulo still have "jesus loves you!" under the board?? if so they r losers!! keep religion out of windsurfing cause it already is one.. ohh and that hendrix superfreak is pretty much the coolest sail ever.. wonder what he would say if he could see his superfreaks doin backloops over the sunset??

What a freekin shallow world we live in. It's about how the board goes not how it looks ! After working in retail for years I was amazed at how important graphics are for a lot of people and they bought boards on how they looked over how they sailed. Make all boards grey ! Na don't even bother to paint them.
People are spending millions on how they and there stuff looks. From clothing to whte goods. It's not about you looking at it it's about your mates looking at it. Each brand falls into a catagory that says something about your personality. Graphics are all part of it. Would you buy a ferrari or a porshe if it looked like a skoda?

That's how I pick my girl friends. With boards though, graphics are more important.
grey boards?? there is enough grey in most windsurfers hair!! not to mention beards, seat harnesses, gloves, booties, old faded wetsuits, these guys dont care what anythin looks like.. they also dont buy new gear... windsurfins dying in aus cause its dull.. go to europe and there are cool people sailing, with cool gear doin cool moves, and cause they look cool other ppl buy cool kit and sell their old gear making a surplus of cheap old gear for new people to buy.. windsurfing winns!!
GREAT SUCCESS!!!
why does cosmetic things like graphics matter, what you should be looing for is performance, sure its nice to look good while sitting next to your cool graphic board on the water, but if it is a **** performer on the water, its not really worth it... shouldnt be looking at graphics, look at the rails, concaves, construction etc etc.
i personally think, if you buying a board just for the graphics your in the sport for the wrong reason, look at some of the custom board out there, they are ugly, but the performance is unbelievable, ![]()
Well there is a lot of talk here about performance...the reality is, that at a given price point most boards of the same style perform in a similar fashion. Sure they each have their own nuances, but I am yet to see many people that have bought a new board be unhappy with the way it performs no matter who the manufacturer. So graphics is really all that the manufacturers have to make one board different from another. And with that they are all working to win over your sense of style.
So yeah, I like a board that looks good. It's all about the style.
you know it seems to me after so many years the better performing boards turn out to be either simply white or grey but grabbing one's attention to graphics these companies really know how to do it...
Performance is very important, but good graphics make you feel good about the board you bought. I have never bought a board based on looks, but it is nice when it looks good as well. Hubby has a F2 Guerilla and it is awful - he calls it the "handbag", apparently they didn't sell well because of the graphics, hence he got it at a really good price...![]()
Would you buy a top performing stick if it looked gay? It's a no from me.
I feel most production board graphics have become to busy, less is more.
I agree Mr No-one. Graphics are only good if they look really good, otherwise I'd probably prefer a plain board than something that looked like modern new age grungy arty farty graffiti designer stuff. But I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
i agree , all this arty farty graphics looks ****e on most boards , well pretty much on anything , i reckon the MISTRAL boards looks good with a smokey backround and just a few nice flowing lines all symmetrical n stuff
much better than a bunch of scribbles.
and all the scribbley stuff u are more likely to find on kites n such.
phil j! a bic astrorock what a disco connection! always wanted to have that board when i was in the learning stages too bad it was what 90ltrs..it was a hot board during it's time...
Give me the Star Wars / Trekky inspired JP graphics anyday - lol [}:)]
Just kidding - I prefer fairly plain - perhaps with some small pacific island influence (showing my Kiwi ancestry) like the Starboards. The Angulo graphics look really cool too.
