Will try and post some pics and wind/swell reports in the lead up to the comp
looks awesome!! Luke is almost completely in the air!! and you say it was off the lip! hope hes pullin stuff like that on the weekend, cant wait!!
Very poor camera wok by me I am afraid.
There was some great aerials being thrown by a few of the guys but I was just too slow with the camera (and way too interested in getting out amongst it)
Luke nailed a couple of very clean goiters and Morrie was cranking so hard off the top you could hear the spray slap down behind the wave.
Just checked the beach just now.
Swell is on the build and probably getting close to head high
Wind is dead south which is straight onshore
Water temp approx 16 - 17 degrees (bring some rubber)
Friday is looking the goods with 20 knot westerly's predicted... could be worth an early look for those coming up for the comp.
Sounds good, few of the crew from here are gettin up friday arvo for a sail. Gaggin to get the new gear on the water, looks sick. Sailed on monday, cross on 25kts, 74lt real world wave was awesome frontside and backside. Cant wait to give the pro wave a rip down the line.
Keep us posted on the condition kev, be gentle though, Im a seabreeze virgin haha
All the best, dan
Gee unlucky, you had one of the best wave boards around goya 75 now you have a JP. You might be able to wave ride like kremlin now.
What are you doing ridding a real world wave??? I thought you said that you would never ride anything like a real world wave or evo or pocket wave etc,etc...... Next thing you will be ridung a bloody JP X-cite ride at the beach. LOL ![]()
Ive actually got a pro wave comin, the real world is just a loaner, that happened to work really well. You can hardly compare it to an evo or pocket wave fish style board though, its a couple of cms shorter and wider than I normally ride. Did the job though. thumbs up![]()
Great to see everyone getting pumped up for the event. Our Team Rider Jesse (Junior Freeride) will be competing in his brand new TABOU/GAASTRA gear and we wish him the very best of luck. Anyone wishing to test the gear out please see Jesse at the event.
Hav fun guys and wish you plenty of wind!
When has the forecast been 100% right?
Hope too see everyone there.
If no wind, chill out and have a beer.
I'm coming up for one day only as I have to work Sunday.
Birubi comp means Summer's just around the corner.![]()
Late arvo/early evening update
I checked Birubi at around 5pm as I was returning from the big smoke.
Swell was a pretty consistent 3 foot with some bigger sets moving through.. conditions were absolutely perfect...perfect for surfing that is. Absolute glass without a hint of breeze.
Very misty/foggy here at present so am confident cooler air from the west is coming on in
Tomorrow could be the pick.
Looking forward to catching up with a few crew over a beer or 3 !
Hope to test out the new Bro edition JP Real World Wave 82...
Kev
Sounds like a fair bit of new kit going around.
Any one got an old 460/430 SDM and boom for sale. Thats all I need to get back on the water after a couple of years out. (oh yeah and a hacksaw blade to get my seized mast ext out of my old mast)
Cheers
oldboy
Very very light nor wester into Birubi
I'll head down and grab a picture of the swell size in the next hour once I get some coffee into the system.
Swell sounds bigger as I awoke to the sound of it.
Birubi faces due south so any hint of south swell comes marching straight n
High Tide 1104
Low Tide 1503
Oldboy, I would suggest bringing your mast with jammed extension up to the comp... come Saturday and Sunday there could be a beachfull of people you could rope into grabbing onto the mast and separating the bits

High Tide UPDATE
Wind has just arrived in Anna Bay/Birubi
Newcastle is showing a 20 knot spike... here on the beach its blowing 13 knots cross off and the waves are oh so clean !
Still some swell sticking about (head high with bigger sets)and with the outgoing tide and building breeze (fingers crossed) it could be worth a crack
Wind arrived a lot later than predicted which could mean more wind for tomorrow

Wind is backing off right now
Just left the beach and there were still 3 guys out in 12 - 15 knts
Was windier earlier and the swell had some size (overhead on sets) and crunch to it... 2 snapped masts so far and the comp hasn't even started yet !
Oh and nutbag, the wind reading comes via a hand held wind gauge that I scored for free off a mate of mine who used to be the Channel 7 weatherman a few years back. It lives in my car with all the rest of my sailing kit and half of stockton sand dunes/birubi beach.
Fingers crossed for some wind tomorrow... the early might be the go !

Can this little comp be hyped up anymore. Should be funny though watching those guys riding Real World Waves trying to do a cutback.
especially with all that GPS, wind gauge, laptop crap hanging off your boom. next thing you'll be doing is rigging up in the sand!
Not pro yet, but hopefully soon!

So Jesse is in the pro division this year?

Zero chance of wind up there this weekend. Talking about riding styles, I wish Andrew Thornton, Brett Goodwin and Doogs still did the comps. Those guys were so far ahead of everyone a few years ago and their waveriding would still be unmatched today.
Here, Here....seems to be quantity not quality at comps these days..more waves you get, better chance of winning, not how you ride them.
How true,Ma and Peto, you are right. Wavesailing in NSW has regressed from the standard of 10 years ago. The comps are generally run in beer drinking wind and consequently ruled by a skeleton on an oversized board and judged by people who wouldn't know any better..... ha!
