Looks like all Billabong, Quicksilver, and Volcom stores in the US are closing due to bankruptcy of their parent corp Liberated Brands.
Apparently the licenses for the products will be transferred to another parent company; Authentic Brands Group.
RipaQuikBong and all their ilk are just ripoffs anyway
$60 tee shirt that doesn't last as long as a $10 one.
but it does annoy me the big companies buy out surf brands and ruin them.
Hopefully this signals the end is near for corporate surfing.
I'd give this 10 green thumbs if I could
RipCurl held out or no-one wanted to buy them for the price they wanted pretty smart. Corporate for surfing has not really ruined it just made more crap for average punter to buy. Corporate in skateboarding has made it absolutely huge. I remember skating for shops in the 90's and I was lucky to get some free t-shirts or shoes.... Number 4 in the world just purchased a Lambogini go figure.
What always surprised me about these brands was the difference in quality depending on country. In Aus it was less thread count in cloth feeling much thinner shirt and stretching loss shape after a yr or 2
In Europe higher thread count and shirts lasted 5yrs with less loss of shape.
Similar prices

This might apply to more than just Billabong and Quicksilver, LOL.
