I have an Aeron ali wave boom - 29mm. I have had it for 3-4 seasons and sail waves regularily (Mainly Scarbs and lano, i have also used it at margs, gnaraloo and gero). I have weighed between 80 and 90kg for all that time. It is still going strong (except for the grip which has been ripped up a bit due after being damaged at buckets last winter). I cant remember what I paid for it, just that it was cheap and reccomended by a few others that used them at the time I bought them.

Have an Aeron and Gun mono ali boom. Both great, well made, stiff, good clamp - although Gun is cheaper and more comfy.

I haven't had a savaging for a while, so I'll say that my el cheapo Pryde X3 which is now 3 years old has seen some solid action with no problems, including going through the rinse cycle at Palmie and the Bin an embarrassing number of times.
I'm not hard on gear though.

I'll second that. I use X3 (160-210) and mostly on my 6.2m. The clamp mechanism is great (nice firm fit - no slop) and slightly oversized so it spreads the load on the mast. The 2010 model I currently have is very stiff and it is a narrow diameter so nice in the hands. I have tried a few brands of boom and allways come back to the Prydes.

Sorry NP boom lovers, based on responses to previous Seabreeze topic at link below about X3 booms I definitely won't be getting one:

Not sure Aeron are any tougher than NP

I'm not really sure about any particular brand of ali boom being 'tougher' than any other brand, however others opinions about the gear that has lasted and the gear that hasn't will influence my choice of boom to some extent. Sure, there maybe a lot more NP booms on the market than any other brand which could reduce the attrition rate but it's hard to ignore considerable negative feedback!
