A friend of mine had one of those X-ride fins (38 or 40) and he said it spun out on him all the time. I had a Ride 40 and it was fine (we weigh about the same)... though I am no expert. To me a good fin is one that doesn't spin out, gets you going early and goes upwind well, which I believe I got from that fin. My only reference at the time was the crap stock fin that came with my board.
Board width? Rough water or flat?
Select S1 41 is my fastest (large) rough water fin - used on a 68 wide freeride board, 7.5m camless Ezzy Cheetah.
I used Black Project Type R's and Hammer's in that board, they both worked really well, as does the new MFC H1's.
For Super windy conditions 'smaller sails' the BP Sabre was great.
The BP type R 32.5 was my go to even with 7m so hard to spin out, super fast and powerful for size, the BP hammer 35 was great in the lighter winds, 7m..and the MFC H1 38cm for large sails (8m) light wind.
There you go few choices!

I have one of those - 69 cm slalom board and 7 m sail. Rough water. From memory the Ride 40 I had was thicker, yet the Select provides just as much bottom end and doesn't feel like "dragging" when powered up.

That is exactly my experience too. Slippery feel with plenty of bottom end.

Yes the BPR 32.5 is an excellent fin. I frequently use it with my 6.5 in strong winds and it really works.

Open sea rough water is most sailing I do .I am now looking at the BP r too.
I feel the S1s are faster on open waters, but the BPRs are bullet proof and you can run a smaller size.
