I have 2 45cm RDM alu extensions (one Gun and once Hypersonic) Euro pin
gunsails.com/en/catalogsearch/result/index/?f=pro+p+237&q=pro+p
http://www.caloundrakayaks.com.au/mast_extensions.html

Used it in a SDM with poorly fitting inner (old cut down mast bit) sheath to reduce it to RDM

Have bent both extensions now (from using 30-42cm extension with wave sail downhaul), probably from bad fitting??

So do I buy a stronger one this time (now have correct mast), or will it be fine now have right RDM (better fit and less extension needed)? Does this alu bend back ok?

If other extension, which RDM 45cm extension (Euro pin)??

edit: i'm not saying these are bad extensions, I have used them incorrectly and they were great price point, but are there stronger ones?

I wouldn't think you could straighten it. I have an NP extension which has been fine (I don't get radical though) and at $75 you can't get much cheaper.

Hey Dean

I'm pretty sure that 30-45cm's of extension is going a bit too far for an RDM extension. When I used to use big sails and NDM I ended up buying a Chinook extension - super tough.

I've been wanting to buy a sail over 5.7m but would need to get a bigger mast. However I've been wondering if I could use a broken section of RDM to make an extender to fit on the top of the mast. Not sure if this would help you also?

How are the sails holding out? You around for the Woolgoolga comp?

Almost what he said!

I've had the 30cm (goes to 40cm I think) Chinook extension on my 6.4 Severne S2 and with a 430 skinny powerex for a year or two and it works a treat - tough as nails - I've broken battens and torn sails in the surf but the extension is still perfect. a bit more expensive but worth it.

Its funny cause they wont go on the two pin pryde or aeron cup unit joints / bases as they are lightly smaller - look exactly the same - might be OK with euro pin though

Little Jon - Yeah didn't think it'd be safe straightening, not that I get radical (yet!)
Windybee - thanks for the input, not

Crash -
Hey Ben, yeah have both the 430 and 460 RDM now, so set (just bent them before I got the 430).

Trying to work out to go the same extension (realising i've used them past design) or buy something more expensive/stronger

Yeah the sails are holding out great, finally getting to use them (can't wait now I have the right mast too, instead of old fiberglass, ha ha).

Will be there to watch the Woopi comp, will be sailing there over Summer too. Catch ya start of Oct

russh - Cheers for the input on the Chinook, swayin that way

What extension brand/type/cost is everyone using???

Chinook all the way for me, one of mine was secondhand when I bought it, looks like crap with all the scratches in the blue anodising but still solid as a rock.

Got my vote

I'm using a Prolimit RDM carbon extension it cost $130 and have had no issues. I use it on sails upto 6.7 with a 430 mast, sails bigger then this i switch to a SDM mast and extension. I don't use it on its full extension, as with most things when you push them to the limit they often break. I also have a alloy version which was half the price, This also has been fine, Both are about 2 seasons old.

I bent a mast extension once. I have a landyacht that takes a windsurf rig and there was a tree branch across the footpath which I foolishly thought I would get under.. well you can guess the rest, (only time I've seen a landyacht do a wheel stand! Can really get some mast rake now though
