Hi guys,
I'm off to Bendigo for a six week rotation. Anybody know any good places to sail? a) given the lack of water in most lakes and b) close enough to bendigo for an afternoon sail. Or should i just not bother taking my board up?

Cheers

There was some lake but I think it is all dried up now. Uncle Joe has a good fish'n'chip shop there, its in the main street.

Can I add Ballarat? Chance I might be there for a few months (yay).

Doesn't look like there's any water in Eppalock!! Has anyone sailed in Waranga Basin or Cairn Curran recently?
mmm... Fish and chips!

I lived in Bendigo for many years, and Lake Eppalock used to be good, now it's good for moto-cross. It's only 1.5hrs to Geelong and Pt Henry, or Torquay a bit further. You can also get to the bay, say St.Kilda pretty fast. There's also a big lake called ? on that highway heading NE, maybe an hour or so away. RalInn sails / used to sail it a bit - not sure of water supply there these days. Of course sailing inland lakes invariably involves gusty shifting winds, just head for the coast!

Cheers Easty,
Just looking for a quick fix when ive finished for the day or score a late start and its windy enough to be bothered. Gotta get in some Gybing practice! I'm heading up there from Bayside Melbourne so that'll still be my weekend destination.
Thanks mate,

hey there clay, good luck finding water up that way, tho years ago i sailed at waranga basin which is fairly deep, so it may have water, and it was awsome.... big lake, strong winds and heaps fun, as for ballarat panda, lake burrumbeet about 15 kms west of ballarat may still be ok but not sure, but lake wendouree was dry as a few weeks ago. probly ok for scavenger hunting tho, apparently when doing a clean up of the lake bed the locals found some good stuff including 3 guns.... 1 that was linked to a murder!!!!

I sailed on lake eppalock when it was about 15% full, doging trees was fun. I think its around 7% now so you might get a sail in. I reckon its worth checking out, its about 20min from bendigo
