Well hell, all this time I was figuring that "batterns" was the Ozzie word for "battens", so I was just letting it ride, along with "kit", which we usually refer to as "gear", or "equipment", or just "stuff" or "junk".
Somebody posted a vid here awhile back that was about the Ozzie words that are unique to Oz, as explained by an attractive brunette, it was a hoot.
