Rent gear in La Ventana. I think the season there runs through Feb, maybe March. Punta San Carlos (Solosports) has rental gear if you stay in their accomodation, otherwise bring your own gear. Season there starts late March. Harsh camping conditions compared to La Ventana.

Definately do punta san carlos (solosports) they do a fly in / out from san diego. They supply everything except your harness and wetsuit. Amazing beach break with perfect cross off conditions and starboard tack on the way out. They cater for everyone and everything windsurf, kite, SUP, Surf, MTB - and carry the kit for everyone. Food is amazing - home cooked authentic mexican. All the beer and tequilla you can handle.

It is early in the season, but i think there is a better chance for wind in that late March to Early May period, but not generally much swell about. I have been over in april and scored great wind with shoulder high waves. That time of year the water will be cold as F***. Take a good steamer, nothing less than a 4/3.

If your after a more tourist experience then there are the vela resorts.
