i haven't read the whole lot but if it's what i think it is, that's been around a while now and when i first saw it i thought what tha, this guys rigged hid adjustable outhaul all wrong, till i realised how it worked and then thought, that's quite clever. i wonder how successful it is?

The patent was filed in 1997 ... It's 14 years old, I have never seen one for sale or in use, so I suggest it neither works well or is marketable. The patentee is unlikely to have retired on the profit... Infact probably still owes his patent attorney a fair bit of cash.

Probably useful for a beginner frozen on the boom, with an unstable 1990s sail?
I found that I could plane faster across a strong current by offsetting the mast base, but that was before I got into second gear. Now it is inconsequential...
But I thought at the time "Maybe I could patent this. After all. nobody is allowed to make and sell a flexible uphaul rope "
