This week Fremantle sailing club hosts this super important youth regatta. It is a qualification for the Youth Worlds in december. We are all sailing on the Bic Techno 293 One Design.
We started the first of today's races in about 12-15 knots, and its was a close race with Jock Calvert (Tas) taking first, Emma Bailie (QLD) taking a close second and John Lynch (NT) closing out the podium.
The second race saw conditions build to 20-25 knots, and Jock took and early lead and took it to the end to take out another bullet. Emma was in second at the half way point of the race, but Angus Calvert (Tas) managed to pass her on the downwind. He looked like he would get a second place, but catapulted about 20 metres from the line, and let Emma pass him to take her second second. Angus got across the line for 3rd. The forecast is looking slightly lighter for tomorrow, and we have 3 races scheduled. Stay tuned! ![]()
Hey guys have fun.
Here a suggestion: how about having a freestyle or fun session in between races, and posting pics?
I was stuck in a resort lately where the 293 is all they had for rental.
Didn't like the plank, but it's quite freestyle-able, lots of sail tricks, railrides, and when enough wind duck jibes & tack, etc.
Why not have a friendly comp at the end of racing !
Just an idea...
Hi All
The event is massive with hundred of craft on the water, so coordinating demo sessions would be difficult but not a silly suggestion.
Here is a link to a results feed - the Windsurfers are on the course at the same time as the 420 class as there are only 4 starters in the Techno 293 class.

I had a chat to the Rob the GM at Fremantle Sailing Club and they are doing their best to capture some good shots of the Windsurf races and we will post them as soon as we can!
If anyone has a boat and a camera they are welcome to head out t the course and take some action shots - the radio frequencies being used are 71/72/74 so you can stay in touch with the safety boats, start boat & Harbour Master if needed. Todays race starts at 12.00 sharp!
Cheers all!
Good luck all with your championship.
For Information:
The first Australian Hybrid Class Championships will be held on the Australia Day weekend in Brisbane along with the Raceboard Oceanic Championship. This class includes Techno 293.
I hope some or all of you can make it.
Spare boards are available. The class is not restricted to youth.
More information is available on the Windsurfing QLD forum.
Day 2 was one of the trickiest days on the water ive ever experienced! We had breeze shifting through 50 degrees and wind variations at time close to 15 knots. It was not racing for the light hearted, and the young kids did an amazing job getting around the course and doing it well!
I managed to win all the races again today, but the other results were super tight and exciting! In race one, angus was in second with john in third, but emma and nic were able to use a good wind shift to jump up into those two places and stay there.
Race two saw emma get ahead of the others for another second, and angus managed to break free of john and nic for third.
In race three angus was a long way clear in second, but his fatigue slowed him down, and then he hit an actual 1.5m hammerhead shark!! Luckily it didnt knock him off his board and he sailed off, but it let john and emma close the gap! The last downwind saw angus just hold off the other two, and john squeezed into 3rd. All three of them finished within 30 seconds of each other!
Forecast is for more wind tomorrow and 3 more races, should be some photos soon!!
