Since the WA team went over and dominated the slalom nationals in Green Island last year i am proposing that we should have the rights to hold it in our own state. With much more ideal slalom conditions and better access to all in the seaside town of Cervantes.
This i only 2.5 hours drive from Perth but once there the setup for the week will be simple and easy logistically and with as much rigging space and blue lagoon waters as our hearts desire
We could have access to amazing helicopter photography and film.
Cheap caravan parks and Hotel with a great pub (revamped menu)
I don't think what you are saying is correct Isaac. Conditions between Green Island and Cervantes are basically identical in my opinion. Green, I would say is a little more consistent for wind given the contest period over the last 3 years producing some great racing.
Access is also easier for most , easy walking distance from the CBD to a ferry means no need to hire a car for the week which keeps cost down for most competitors, something you would need in WA.
Flights from Bris, Syd, Melb all under 3 hrs to Cairns. Travel to Perth then Cervantes your are looking at a whole day of travel gone each way.
Green is a great winter escape for most with plenty of options should the wind not cooperate being a big bonus. In Cervantes its lawn bowls.
However...
Cervantes is a good option with consistent breeze in summer and I do agree the venue for the nationals should get shared around, if just to give the boys who have helped out the last 3 years a break.
I've got a tinny you can use to set the course and sit in all day doing the starts.
I don't like your chances on the helicopter though and the pub "Menu" doesn't event come close to what is on offer in Cairns.

Yeah, BUT Green Island isn't going to happen !!!!!!
It has the facilities ...don't forget the thirsty point pizzas.they rock.
And sure does have the strong wind.....good idea ..but ..green island won't let it go.
create a new comp......

So to clear up, guys are paying between 75 to 150 a night in cairns where as in Cervantes you can pitch tents on shared campsites for about 15-25 bucks a night. So the car hire of about 50 or so a day (share with other entrants) works out much cheaper. We can all walk to the same pub or country club and be social at the same venue instead of spreading out over a small city area of Cairns.
You would be able to drive 5 mins or walk 15 mins to get to competition area. In Cairns you have to walk 15 mins and catch a ferry for the best part of an hour each way.
You wouldn't have to worry about tides and have a 4 hour window for the day when you have to travel 2 hours on a ferry.
There is no limit to entrant numbers
Probably wont need your tinny for starts Troppo, will probably be better for rescue., A canopy boat that is wind shadowed would be much better for independent race committee.
Anyway I'm not going to go on I know you are a QLD boy and you are batting for your home town. It will be a true windsurf experience.
Interesting thread guys. Out of interest who actually sanctions an event as a "national title"?. Is it the AWA or otherwise.

I was under the impression the GI nats were on again for 2016.
Can you enlighten us AUS 4?
From all accounts The Green Island Slalom and Free Race Nationals will be held again this year. Organiser's are just waiting on the final details before officially making any announcements.
A well run event in June, with excellent consistent conditions has ticked all the boxes for the last 3 years.

If there is serious arrangements for the 2016 nationals then I'm not going to attempt to push a Cervantes event. Regardless of who is organising it I wouldn't try to change plans. This will instead be a legitimate request for 2017.
As for real winter getaways I will be heading to Mauritius for the 3rd year in a row. Very cheap deals for competitors flights baggage transport and accommodation. It isnt be much more expensive than going to GI.

There's been a number of posts on Seabreeze and emails sent to the organisers and NO reply. IF they are going to tell us ..........is it 2 days before the event starts !!! I'm sure people would like to organise holidays with work and book travel and accomodation.

On from 5-9 June

AWA decide on the location assuming there is more than one interested party. At the time of the AGM a couple of weeks ago GI was the only option on the table
Cervantes , a beautiful place to sail ,had the pleasure to sail there in January with Issac would be a great place to have an event anytime .

Are you serious? The wavesailors have been wanting to know where their event is www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Wave-sailing/2016-Wavesailing-Nationals/ and now we find out there was a secret meeting that no-one knew about. The Gnaraloo comp had everything in place including some of the best sponsorship and coverage ever plus the best spot in the world, plus it was the only option on the table and it wasnt discussed at the meeting? Sorry, but there's some serious questions that need to be answered here!
At the time of the AGM, posting the above and to date AWA has made no decision on the Wave Nationals location. The previous post clearly regards the Slalom Nationals and was not related to the wave nationals.
In regard to the "secret meeting", the AWA AGM was attended by all state reps and in regard to WWA, all decisions/issued listed in the notice of meeting were discussed at at state level prior to the AGM. Hardly a "secret meeting". During the AWA AGM, the AWA committee was made aware of the Gnarloo proposal by the WWA rep but as hard information for the event have not been provided to WWA a decision to support the event could not be made.
An event at Cervantes? Methinks an event there would draw a crowd from all over. If it was just before or after LOC all the better. We'd then have a great winter and a great summer event. Just a thought!
If you were going to hold it at Cervantes then maybe it should be a gran prix event like GI.
ie Slalom, freestyle and free race.

Yeh I have spoken to the right people and they are backing this idea.
So to have a 2 pronged event of Lancelin Ocean Classic and the Cervantes Australian Slalom Nationals will be HAPPENING!
If the public could please PM me on any sponsorship and support I would bring this forward to the good people.
As for before or after the LOC what is the general consensus?!
A: Before
B: After
Please PM or reply for your answer I will tally the results ![]()
This will be awesome to make the east coast and international stars worth their time and effort coming to WA. Cervantes is only 45 mins north of Lancelin so very nice transition.
Whats the weed si t uation like at cervantes? Might have to invest in a few hundred weed fins to sell on the beach at inflated prices.

I sail here all the time, every summer for years and the weed is almost non existent
Never a problem on pointers, rarely catch a ribbon in a whole days sailing.. Nothing like Lancelin or Safety Bay.
Holy snappers no weed ive got to go. was at lancelin last weekend for first time in about 16 years and was freaked out by the amount of weed. No wind anyway so didnt matter. Will go up to cervantes next time.
