So i saw a kayak with a little sail on it going past a stand up paddle boarder when i had an idea:
Could a sail be attached to a SUP? It might work!
This could be the next step for SUP. Imagine sailing a SUP instead of paddling it like a sucker! I'm not sure how one could steer, perhaps some sort of rudder controlled by the feet? A keel or dagger board could be attached to the bottom.
It's beyond my mad-inventor-in-the-shed level, but i'll leave the idea here for those with the skills to prototype.
This could revolutionise the world of SUP!
It's extremely common for SUPs to come with a mast mount. Usually a single screw in location that isn't very strong and eventually breaks, but some have a proper mast track.
Certain Naish, Fanatic etc sups have mast inserts. Very common to whack a sail on a sup for cruising, light wind wave sailing or learning.
Lots of people putting wing dings on sup's as well.
A few years back, I was windsurfing on big kit on a nice summer's day (we don't get much wind in the summer where I am so it was a treat). Some kids on a summer day camp outing were paddling upwind around the corner from launch. It was not pleasant for them as it took a bit of work in the 12-18 breeze.
One lad took a look at me, enjoying rather than fight the breeze, as I came in an said something like, "Hey, we need one of those."
