I'm in Melbourne, VIC and I found an old 2006 JP "New School" for pretty cheap, which I was rapt about. Apparently the guy selling it had lost the footstraps and I though that was no big deal. Wrong! The board cost $300 and 4 new footstraps are $150. That seems crazy
Does anyone have ANY old footstraps for sale? Loud, weird colours, I don't care.

If you're going to be doing long hours, you get what you pay for. Treat straps like your harness, you need comfort for longer sessions and they will wear out. My experience is cheap straps = don't last long and sore/worn out feet. I simply get longer sessions with good straps, DaKine primos are my choice.
Next question for buying footstraps and hardware: How are these supposed to work? The rear straps seem to have the 'holes' perpendicular to where the straps should go but the front ones seem to be on a 45? angle. the other thing is that the 'holes' dont have any thread running through them. How do the new straps actually attach?
All the videos seem to just show someone screwing a couple of bolts through the straps and into the holes.
Were these a special system or am I just THAT ignorant of how they are supposed to work? Feeling super noobie right about now...
The front straps are at 45
there is a special screw that is very board thread
it's a Cobra footstrap screw in M6
do not use anything else
Great leaning board , capable of much fun and action.Made strong. It sounds like you're a beginner. Unless you're starting to plane , it's probably best to leave them off. Just a tripping hazard. You would then start with the front straps as forward and inwards as possible. Same with the back, ( where the 180 number is ). As you get better , move the straps back and outwards.The ends of straps have end plates with a hole in the middle for the screw to go through. The screws just cut their way into the plastic holes in the board. That's why it's important to get the correct screws.The original expensive straps you were probably quoted on ,( JP ) ,are my personal favourite and come with anti twist end plates and correct screws. Good straps are expensive. I've once bought a cheap board just for the good straps. Cut the board up and put it in the wheelie bin. Looks like your board never had straps on it.
ps, don't forget to tighten the vent screw . And make sure the little rubber o ring under the screw is in good condition. pps, you will soon get hooked on the best thing to happen to you.

It's frustrating when hidden costs pop up! Footstraps shouldn't break the bank. Hopefully, someone has some old ones lying around. Loud colors, mismatched, whatever works-just need something functional to keep that board a great deal. Fingers crossed!
We were all new once. A great thing to do is visit somewhere you are likely to sail, go hang out, watch for others like your self starting out or improving etc, have a chat, pick the brains of the locals, get tips for you local spot, work out where its beast for you to put in that's shallow and safe etc etc. See if anyone has the same board as you have snapped up (for a song id say!)or at least similar, check out their set ups. Strap fitting details are as others have described, special screws, an anti twist plate, and yes good straps are like a good pair of running shoes, they just work, and you don't think about them whist they are in use, bad straps are like foot torture! Bad straps have caused many an injury, blister, busted toe, bruises, or worse! Welcome enjoy.

Looks like I'll be biting the bullet and getting the expensive ones.
I'll definitely tighten the vent and thanks for bringing my attention to the o-ring.
This is definitely going to be my first planing board so probably best to do it all by the book!

I have 3 that I have been thinking to sell, hardly used. Near new. Hit me up....

they're all identical to look at, and in feel. Seem to be made by the same mob
if you can feel the difference then you are not terrified enough when sailing 
My absolute favorite are also very cheap:
Simmer. Really durable, a lot more comfortable than Drake or Dakine.
After breaking my toe and getting sick of cut and spiked feet , I'm thinking of using booties. So now my whole foot strap world will have to change. I've tried several kinds of boots and simply don't like them. It's because I use my straps tight and just have my little toe sticking out the other side. This set up wedges my foot in the strap and using booties makes it hard to get my feet out smoothly. Upsetting my impeccable flawless sailing. It also uncomfortably wedges my foot to the front of the boot. So now , the part which makes me loose sleep , ( more than the next door neighbour's relentless barking dogs ) , is the fact I will have to use my straps looser so my foot goes further in , to reduce the wedging effect. So now , I will have to , loosen my straps and move them outward a couple of holes . This will lead to the total disruption of my deck set up. It will be like learning to sail all over again ! What a mess ! I wonder how much my sailing prowess will deteriorate with the strap further up my foot ? I am even thinking of sanding off the diamond grip on my pads to counter act the over grippiness of booties. All this worry is making me feel ill and leading me to the drink. There's more .. giving into booties is like loosing my manliness. I will no longer be able to scoff at my nancy bootie wearing sailing mates. I will become one of them. Next I'll give up chewin tobacco and think about winging.

Yeah nahhh Mark. Yous just not sailing long or hard enough if you can't tell the difference.

We figured out if we bound our feet in parts of old wetsuits held on with tie downs we would not bleed as much from the barbed wire. That's how footstraps were invented.
Now let's see how this gets turned into a whinge about COVID.

I was just thinking you should give up windsurfing Imax1 but go winging is probably a better idea indeed and there's no straps that cause harm. Just stay away from the foil

Probably some bias. Also 40+yrs of being bound to a lump of fibreglass everytime it blows has taken its toll. All subjective in reality for what works for the individual.
My favs last century were Windsurfing Hawaii's feet belts. Rolls Royce comfort levels and quality compared to what's available now. Just no longer available.

Thanks for all the support- plus a little more info than I bargained for!
Mark has me sorted with some used ones and hardware which will save me TONS!
Also, it seems that I'll be starting to plane with the harness and no straps (catapulting, yeah!). I just have to get brave enough to get out in the chop!
Really amazing to see the support of this community- I've wanted to sail forever and I'm super excited to get this next stage happening.
Maybe I'll get to meet someone around Sandringham in VIC sooner or later- I'll be the one flying over his sail!

Once you find the right windsurfing shoes ,its just a matter of getting use to them .Would these suit .But on a serious note ,split toe
and strap boots are the only way to go ,forget winging your a speed freak
