What do you all think would be the best mast size range to fit a sail size from 4.7-5.3? Would I be able to get away with useing a 370? Or a 400? I would rather just have 1 mast for that range if possible. I would be getting a RDM mast by the way.

I get 4.7 to 5.8 on a 400 (NP wave sails 2013 - 2015)

400

The more I look at your avatar Mark, the more it disturbs me....

Make sure your 4.7 has a vario top if the luff length is just over 400 cm.

Most wave sails seem to change mast size around 4.7/4.8, i.e. 4.7 might have a luff length of 402 so using a 370 requires 32 cm extension or using a 400 requires 2 cm extension. The minimum extension on my mast extension is 6 cm so sail is higher above the deck than the sailmaker intended unless the sail has a vario top.

I have a mast extension that goes to 45 cm, so I should be good there. My 4.7 Neilpryde Combat sail has a 390 cm luff and wants a 370 mast. The sail looks to be a fixed top, not adjustable. Do you think a 400 mast will still work ok?

Thanks for your comments guys, so I went with a Maui Sails 400 cm SRS wave reduced diameter mast, 50% carbon. It's used and about 3 years old, but in A- condition. Paid $181 plus $20 in shipping.

I called Maui Sails and talked to them about that mast and they told me it would work fine with a 4.7 - 5.3 sail range.

Maui Sails switched from stiff top to constant curve last year. Neil Pryde is flex top, so putting your Combat in that mast may not give you the ideal feeling sail. If you use the sail once a year it probably doesn't matter, but if it is your most used sail you may not be happy with the way it sets.

I think Neil Pryde may also be switching to constant curve masts. About bloody time.

I hardly ever use the 4.7 so I lucked out there. When I talked to the shop that sold it to me, they said my mast I got was a constant curve.

Found out that the mast is a 2015 model.
