Fight out between Anders Bringdal and Bjorn Dunkerbeck......It is interesting to note that Slalom in the 1980s was held in the surf and it adds to the spectacle of the event. Note that there are no Hawaiians in the final but the Australian KA25 Luke Hargreaves made the final.
Awesome footage, brings back some memories. Used to watch the racing on eurosport satelite tv Chanel back in the nineties. A B was always such a bad loser in the interviews afterwards. Dunkerbeck was the man in the slalom and the waves.

Bringdal, the Cheyne Horan of the World Cup overall title. I think he almost pulled it off that year. I think we should not be too hard on Bringdal after all Dunkerbeck was a machine. It is kind of like the rivalry between Mark Richards and Cheyne. However it is fair to say Dunkerbeck won fair and square but, as per Cheyne MR may not have won in 82: THE CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING THE '82 TITLE LOSS "It might make me sound like a sore loser but when I look back over that year and analyse where it went wrong it's hard not to look at the Brazil contest. MR was sponsored by Lightning Bolt and three of the judges at the Brazil event were affiliated with Lightning Bolt - Mark Jacola, Bernie Baker and Jack Shipley. MR wasn't even at the event. If I won the competition, the world title was mine but I lost on a 3/2 judging decision in the quarters or the semis. The two local judges had me winning the heat. It had nothing to do with MR, it was more of a corporate thing that he was oblivious to."
