Hi guys I'm new to windsurfing. I've only done a two day beginners course. I progressed pretty quick. Getting up planing and turning. Obviously lessons were on large boards. Ive seen a package that has a AHD Free Diamond 70 129ltr board with it. I understand this is a board suited to more progression. What im asking is for advice if this board would be ok to learn on still or not??? Thanks guys.
Sounds ok but try and go for something around 75cm wide or more, assuming flat water to mild chop sailing. Try for a board no less than your weight plus about 35 kg.
Had one of those boards and it was great. Planed early and was pretty quick.
How much do you weigh and what sort of sails would you be using on it?? Very important.
In addition - this is a very old board and I'd be amazed if it had no delamination etc. It would want to be cheap!

Thanks for the advice mate i thought wider was better. Its so hard to find a decent wide board these days. Im only about 67kg so volume didn't think too bad just abit skinny.

I weigh about 67kg. Im 33 yrs old just very slim haha. Tall. Progressed pretty quick in the lessons done alot of similar sports. Im not sure what sails to use. Whats your recommendation.

Cheers mark will have to take a closer look. Havent seen it in person was curious before I rang up.
Hi Droid84 ,I had a Diamond 70 back in the day and was loved the board it very easy to sail but not the fastest of its time but was smooth to sail .The AHD were well made and if looked after should still serve well but as a old board it must be cheap.

Thats awesome to hear thanks heaps. Sounds like a good board. Just wasnt sure how id go on it just starting out but its still got abit of volume. I felt pretty comfortable already though. There's a package for sale for board mast, boom, board and sails for $550 was thinking $400 would be good as like you said its older
Don't do it, spend more and buy a newer, wider learning/freeride board. You will be able to sell it for minimal loss when you upgrade, as you can already see, demand is greater than supply for learning equipment.
I reckon a 130L / 70 wide is not bad for a committed fit guy who is light.
Will be hard work......... but $500 (if the rig is not buggered or cam'ed sails) is better than $2000..........
droid we need to know what the rig is, especially those sails
EDIT found it on gumtree. rig is old but sails are appropriate. You will store the big sails for a while and only use the 5m, which is a smidge large for learning but it won't take you long to be fine with the 5m. Once you are planing after a season of hard slog, you will love that board with the 6.5 in say 15-1kn.
BUT it will still be hard work with no centreboard, you will get frustrated. Like I said only buy this if it is because you need to spend $500. Make sure the board has no soft spots and never had damage where water got in.
