Got some cool shots sent to me today from Col at birdseye photography (www.birdseyeviewphotography.com.au/)
I was running the helmet cam (The POV VIO.1) for the ledge to lancelin edit (to cut in with shots taken from the start and finish line) - -= here are some tight shots taken by Col from the heli.
Had a great start on the downwind side of the start line... with Mr Severne, Mr Dans and Clive all on the same programme
For the race i was running a 75 % carbon mast , ally boom , ally extension - a 2 year old Severne Overdrive (which i absolutely love) -3 cams - super easy rigging and sweet gybe rotation - and fast!
I was running a freeride board (Starboard Futura)- with some training and tune up time (it was my first time on non wavesailing gear since the same date 1 year previously) on my part this set up would have been more than competitive enough to get into the top 5. i finished around 9 or 10 overall.
for lots of intermediate / progressing sailors there really is no need to spend the coin on those $1200 masts, $1200 booms and $1300 sails until you can squeeze the performance out of the gear.
And in many cases i have seen the technical nature of the gear actually holding sailor's skill development back ( especially on gybes -for those that arent really ready for it)
Anyway - what a Great day and a great party !! looking fwd already to next year.
Classic - good to hear it has gone to a good home!
I found that by dropping the downhaul so that the leech tightens up and letting the sail just touch the boom - via the outhaul - that i can get the bottom end of a 8.5 out of this sail - of course its only good till about 15 knots but you are blasting in 11 - 15 !!
