I've never used the Convert (ex Focus ??) sail. Since they are both freeride sails (in the bigger sizes), my guess is that the difference is ruggedness. I chose the Gator over the Focus (Convert ?) because I sail in the ocean and need reenforced sails. If I was going to buy a 7m Severne sail, it would probably be the Convert since the winds would be light, the water flat. Therefore, I wouldn't need a strong sail. The advantage of a less rugged sail is they are lighter.

I think you are right about the Gator. It has more ruggedness and also has more quality materials (kevlar ...).
Both have similar shape and almost same weight (Gator 4,42 kg, Convert 4,4 kg).
