The notice of race for Raceboards Oceanics and Technos Oceanics has now been released - find it on the following site: iycwindsurfingevents.net.au

Note that on-line entry and payment will be available soon - via the main Downunder Pro website. I'll post here when this gets set up.

Qantas has really come to the party, mostly because they feel the event has some real momentum.
You might notice that Qantas now have a Windsurfing Baggage Policy, which is directly related to our involvement with them over the last couple of years.

We want this every to continue to flourish so sponsors like Qantas continue to see the potential of our fantastic sport.

Just quickly If you could all enter asap so we can get an idea of numbers that will help us to run a better event...
If you sail or want to sail a Formula, Race-Boards, RSX or BIC.....then it is Time to
get motivated to participate. We would love some volonteers to help us run a super slick event also...Please email me directly on brettm@gfigroup.com.au if you think you could help in some way......Merry xmas

Just noticed this on the website:

NOTE: Entries received AFTER 18th January 2013 will incur a $50 extra entry fee.

A bit of extra motivation to register before the event!

Or is it a $50 rebate if you enter before the 18th of January 2013?

Coupla questions:

1. I presume people wanting to do both raceboard and formula register twice, correct?
2. Weight divisions and Free Formula aren't represented on the online registration. Can this be sorted out on arrival on the 26th?
3. I've been out of formula sailing for a while so I haven't heard the term "Free Formula". I presume this is what used to be called FE+? And what's the intention of the "use any equipment" statement. Obviously not meant literally, so does this just mean relaxing the "no carbon booms etc" requirement of FE, or maybe you can use more than 2 sails (which would be handy for those of us who can't hold down a 10.0 in 30 knots!)? Or something else?

Yes! The events are on separate dates. RB on 26-28th and the FW event is 30-2nd Feb, so doing both is possible and they require separate registration and payment.

2. Weight divisions and Free Formula aren't represented on the online registration. Can this be sorted out on arrival on the 26th?

We will just make a note of the Light/Heavy (ie <75kg) for the FW class during registration at the beach. Typically we haven't awarded the lightweight trophy out the past few years as this light guy from Brazil always comes out and wins the event, so we just give him THAT trophy instead.

RB class has weight division options on the online-entry form.

3. I've been out of formula sailing for a while so I haven't heard the term "Free Formula". I presume this is what used to be called FE+? And what's the intention of the "use any equipment" statement.

FE+ is now called 'Free Formula'.... just to avoid confusion with the Formula Experience class overseas. Our version of it is, any gear, 1 lap, same start as everyone...

By any equipment, we literally mean you can use any equipment - ie, you can use more than 3 sails if you need it to cover the windrange during the event if we get super strong winds one day. Also you can use more than 2 fins if you need it to get around the course... It's designed this way so as people can try more equipment or make sure they have the right gear to get out on the water in a variety of conditions to help them improve in FW and not have to outlay so much $$ on gear straight off the bat... Seeing as nobody has made 80cm fins or 14m sails it limits itself.

That being said, Free Formula is probably the most competitive division at the event for the past few years!!

Just to add to Sean's explanation:

If you select "formula" from the Class dropdown then the Formula Division dropdown appears, from which you can select "free formula"

In a similar way if you select "raceboard" from the Class dropdown different division dropdowns appear from which you can select.

Nah - no rebates. All bad for the tardy

That sounds good, some of the youth up here were asking if they could enter their RSX in the formula event as well.
