I have spinout problems with one particular setup - 93L Futura, 6.5 Overdrive and MFC SL36. I have noticed that with a borrowed 32-3cm weedie (thanks Bigdog and Bender) I have no problems at all with spinout yet with my own fin I have troubles. It's a bugger when I'm going broad on a speed run and all of a sudden it gives way.
The SL has a fairly narrow outline - I am wondering whether it might be that the weedies (e.g. 33cm Choco) are just bigger in area so I'm getting more grip? I would have thought a 36 was big enough for this set up (stock is a wider 34 Drake Freeslalom). Or is it more likely a technique issue - e.g. stance not compensating for different location of centre of effort.
Anyone else got an MFC SL and have comment on their performance?

i haven't sailed SL but i have a couple of RC and they don't spinout.
could it have been weed that made the difference.???
am a great fan of mfc fins the sl models light to hi-winds real great no spin-outs unless i really push hard on the back foot to go upwind in flukey to gusty conditions..maybe your stance paddymac is making the difference
a 36cm on your setup should be ok
Have looked at a SL in the flesh, can't say I would like it at all. I think that they are so narrow you have to be powered up on them and one of those fins where you need 2cm longer to have the same effect. Almost the direct opposite of the RC which aren't a bad fin.
It is probably a bit of the fin, and a bit technique in that a wider fin does help you... you can either really fine tune your back foot or get a wider fin.
Have a couple of the RCs for the bigger gear and very happy with them. Also just had a great session on the 32 SL with very few spinouts and none while going broad - go figure! Must be the stance... more practice required

the sl's are pretty fast fins, but don't like to be loaded too much. so you have to be careful with (back)foot pressure, esp at lowers speeds. basically the rule is: get up to speed first, then load.
i haven't tried the new sl2's but in theory they should be closer to the rc's in terms of power

to do a bit of answering my own question .. 
After a particularly good 30kn catapult I trashed my dakine speed seat and bought a new prolimits seat harness. All of a sudden things clicked - no spin out, could get the front leg out straight easier, load up the fin better, board trim sooo much better. My assessment - the prolimit has the hook really low, the dakine was too big for me and always rode up (chest harness height) - thought I had harness commitment, obviously didn't! Happy camper

Bit of a tangent here, but...anyone used the MFC weedburner?
It appears to be quite narrow, similar to the SL, and I'm wondering if that would hinder its performance?
I'm on the lookout for a fast weedie to use on my Manta 59 when powered up on the 6.6 or 5.8 Koncept and haven't come across anything suitable yet. Choco weedie is only available down to 33cm in tuttle box. Also heard good things about Lessacher, but the website was down today.
I've got a Select weedie 24cm, but so far I've destroyed two bases trying to wedge it into the (admittedly tight) box on the Manta. Time to get out the sander?

I recently bought the MFC 29 weedy, works really well on my 5.6 Blade, outpointed someone on a 30cm F1 Falcon (similar sail size) which really surprised me.
It's a bit small for my 6.8 Blade when going upwind, but still possible, it feels like it's on the edge of spinout a lot. Works very well on the 5.6 though.
Very happy with this fin, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Yep Pointman, I have a MFC Weedburner 34 that I use all the time. It is a great fin; very stable even in chop, points upwind well, but not particularly fast - never been able to push it beyond 31 knots.
I have also got an MFC SL 38 (actualy "had" untill it fell out at an undisclosed part of the swan river - I am waiting for a low tide to go back with a snorkel and mask). I didn't think too much of the SL - at speeds close to 28 knots it seemed to have strange vibrations even though it was tight in the box.

Regarding speed, the guy I outpointed beat me soundly downwind, but that's usual for him... I haven't tried it enough with other fins to get a good handle on whether it's quick downwind or not. Seems like it's got quite a sharp leading edge which I think is good for speed.

The liquid Pro range - for those who have tried them, how do they compare to the RC and SL range? Am looking at a 40-42cm fin for the Futura111/7.5m sail. Wanting to know what the best fin type would be. Will be used in flat to quite choppy conditions.
