Thought this looked different..Wonder how they go?

New ! the HB concept onshore wave We are proud to present a new revolutionary design in windsurfing fins ! The HB concept is inspired by humpback whale flippers who were scientifically studied by Dr Frank Fish (patent us 6,431,498 B1). We derived the idea to windsurfing fins and the results are amazing !!!! Give them a try, now !

Not really that new, other designers have messed with the idea.

Using a New Idea for a fin?

Wouldn't the paper get soggy?

I think that ones been done before, you'd never be able to use it where there was a hint of weed in the area

Well, it's certainly a "new" idea to them anyway..

This is a choco from 2012, using new technology from a swiss university.

You know what they say, copy from one source and it's plagiarism, copy from more than one and it's called research

Feedback has been amazing for their onshore wave fin! They are so sure of their product that if you don't like it you return it in 30 days no question ask, I don't know if that 30 days return is world wide?
They are now working on a freeride fin with that concept!

Being a long time user and advocate of Makani fins I've had the pleasure of being invited onto their team for this year to test out the HB concept fins over the coming summer. I know they have had real positive feedback with the single fin versions in regards to upwind performance, greatly reduced spin out and grip in the turns. I'll be testing the new HB concept Quad/Twin prototypes before they go into full production. Not sure what to expect at this stage but excited about the opportunity to give them a go, I should see them arrive in the next week or two so I'll give you a up close look when I get my hands on them. Once I get them out in the waves I'll give you the run down on what I think of the HB concept, If you see me around at Gerroa and what to know more or give them a go then hit me up and I'll sort you out with a test run.

Cheers, Jase.

Put up some vids of your testing so those who don't live at gerroa can see them in action.

has been around for ages. As far as I know only really proven well on wind turbines. NASA (i think) did some pretty serious research. Paul Bieker of Oracle AC design team seemed to be a bit of a fan
Like Dan Berry I reckon the proof will be in the forthcoming video....

Dan I will try a get some footage of people testing them for sure. The boys are sending over some 15s & 17s in twin/Quad and a 20 and 22 in the single/Thruster (all in US box). They are sending 2 sets of the 15s and 17s so I can cut them down to fit slot box to give more opportunities for people to try them. They are currently organizing Seabreeze advertising that will give free shipping to Australia to help ease the burden with the weak Aussie dollar if people are interested in tuning their boards up. I'll have them at the Nationals at Flat Rock in November if anyone wants to take them for a spin there.

Crazy or not I'll find out soon enough.

I read the science part on there page and it says this "They even had a greater drag to lift coefficient " to which I thought as if that thing will be really draggy compared to normal fin then I thought hang on a high drag to lift coefficient would in fact mean that it has a lot of drag for how much lift it makes wouldn't it ?

I'd muuch prefer to move around the water like a dolphin than a humpback. Hopefully the vid of Jason testing them will prove me wrong.
