Would anyone know what the sail dimensions - luft and boom for early 1984 - 85 Neil Pryde RAF ( 1st version) wave sails 4.2 , 5.4 - Slalom 6.6 ? I have to replace mast and booms. I'm in Toronto - Sails and board are on the east coast . I made notes , but have misplaced .... TIA

Pink and dark pink RAF waves?
4.2 was normal short, maybe 430 mast with some extension.
5.4 was really tall, maybe 460 mast and 5" extension.
Not sure what year slalom, but it should rig on 460.

Modern masts are going to be so far wrong in terms of luff curve and stiffness I wonder why you're persisting with having to use these sails? For the price of a new mast at $700 (that your sails won't set correctly on) you could get a 5 y/o mast and sail. Recent gear is going to work SO much better and last longer, no worrying about a swim home. And it does not have to be expensive.

hanks again LeeD. Any idea on boom length range ? Can I buy one boom to use on all these sails ? I have an old boom - with 3 pairs of extension tubes - Chinook .... ? I could rig all my sails with it. But Corrosion seized on one side. Many attempts at trying to free it up .
Yes , the Raf wave sails are pink and dark pink .. Any idea on boom length ? . I'm going to haul my old Serfiac mast down east. It's 465 and has a 25 cm tip extension. I could rig the 4.2 with a sail luff extension with webbing pocket for tip of mast.

I'm with Mark. What are you persisting with these sails? Are they for a museum display? They are over 35 years old and you won't be able to rig them on new masts and booms.

You can get stuff 10 years old that will cost less than the mast alone.

All three sails would have been designed to rig on a 465cm mast. That was the standard in the 80's. But if your Serfiac mast is aluminium (can't remember if they made epoxy masts) then it might not work in your RAF Waves, probably too stiff. I don't know about the first RAF Wave version but from what I remember people used to sail the later versions with quite bendy masts. I used to have an '89 RAF Wave.
You shouldn't need the tip extension even for the 6.6 (provided you have a mast base with decent extension). I think tip extensions were mostly designed for bigger sails for people who were too tight to buy a longer mast. The tip extension will make the top half of your mast too soft. The 4.2 should have an adjustable top with long webbing to accommodate the 465cm mast.

But seriously, why bother? if you were in WA you could pick up sails off seabreeze from the 1990's or 2000's for free that would be so much better than your sails. Probably no different in Canada. You must be very attached to those sails.

Would a Gaastra Poison 4.7m2 Sail 2005-06 work as a windfoil sail for a newbie ?
Or should I hold out for something newer ? And a bit bigger ?
I'm 180 lbs, Have shortboard windsurf experience , though it's been awhile.
I plan to buy a SlingShot Shred Sled and the Fwind V3 Foil ( 76 foil , 91 cm mast)

I plan to be out every day in August.

TIA
