Hi everybody!

I would like to upgrade from the hover glide with infinity 76 to something better.
When I'm going upwind everything works perfectly, I feel very good and find myself not even thinking I'm on a foil! downwind is quite ok, but sometimes I run out of front pressure while going 90? from the wind direction...

I was looking at the sab balz 799. Do you think it's a good idea? Can this foil be more manageable in these moments were I'm fighting with overfoil? Is way less forgiving than the infinity?

what is the range I can get from this foil with the wizard 114 and some wave sails from 3.7 to 5.5?

thanks a lot for your help!

If you find the Infinity 76 is too front footed at speed it suggests that you are lighter in weight. The standard i76 and 42cm rear stabiliser are just about right for a sailor around 80kg.

The advantage of the SABFoil 799 is that you can try different stabilisers, e.g. 370 or 399 and then use shims to finely adjust the setup in half degree increments

I'm 135 lbs on a SS114 and started with the I76. I experienced the same characteristics you described with too much lift. I switched to the PFI730 and w103 carbon mast. It made a huge difference in control at speed, and overpowered situations. It still takes off easily and has a very low stall speed, but doesn't hit that "pressure wall" and is more slippery and faster. It also doesn't have such a tendency to follow the wave surface causing foil out when going downwind in swell.

Interesting. I'm ~195lbs and that was my main problem with the 76: overfoiling in swells when going downwind. Only time I've catapulted on the 76 in months.

It made me really think about the 103w and 926 and I got those.

The 926 has me intrigued based on the recent reviews. I'm really interested in how it goes upwind. The wider wingspan would make me think it would help, but less surface area than the 730, so IDK.

I was sailing on my wizard 114lts on lago di garda italy.
Wind from 20 to 25 knots i was using 3.7 goya banzai and slingsot ptm 926 with 92 carbon mast.
Comparing for guy which was using 4.4 foilfreek and balz pro 700 with 325 stabilizer i was slower than him a lot.
After chatting on the beach he told me to buy small stabilizer 325 because i will have less drag and more speed.

I'm going to try to get some clearer gps tracks next time I'm out on it. It felt a lot more powerful upwind than the 76 in the one time I've had it out so far. But I'm humbled by some of the tracks I've seen by guys on more low aspect foils still getting hard upwind so my skill is a limiting factor.

I do think the 799 is a better behaved wing than the i76 (the wing that started the freeride windfoil revolution). 799 has excellent range and is a little faster. but sounds like the PTM 926 and PFI 730 are improvements over the i76 too. Apparently the sabfoil 940 is pretty nice too, but I have never tried it.

You can get pretty good deals on the old sabfoil masts (M92) and fuses (HS899) right now as they have been discontinued or people are selling them as they are switching to Kraken masts. I just picked up two more.

I have a sab 940, it is my favorite wing. So easy and loose feeling with a small sail. My foil buddy has ordered a 799 for his phantasm and wizard 114, so i can compare with him when he gets the wing hopefully in a few days

799 is faster than ptm 926 cannot catch those guy on 799.
I order small rear wing 325 for my ptm 926 will say the difference after testing

Hi!, I came from i76 to Sab799 and 399. Huge upgrade. More speed, more pop, almost same lift, almost same stall speed. And you can try with shims almost any setup (like mast behind, under or front the backfoot). For me is a complete foil from 3.6 to 5.2. Bulletproof construction (I've broke one i76).

Thanks you very much, and thanks to all!

I'm very happy you consider it as a huge upgrade!
Just an other question please...
Can you confirm me that I should cruise high speed with enough front foot pressure left (to fight overfoil) to make the ride comfortable?
that's my biggest concern...I know it's build for freestyle and so rapid acceleration followed by tricks...but it's not my goal...at least for now I would like to enjoy a speed run without that sensation the i76 gave me...

Hmm, I have to sheet the sail out on that foil when 90 degrees to the wind like you say. I had a crazy day where a 4.4 was a bit much and it looked like this. I wasn't crashing but I kept it slow to control it.

I'm on a different board though and my mast base is further back than the wizard. But when I was getting the 76 to over 20mph it got hard to control, even with on a different board with a way forward mast base.

You can learn to love the Infinity 76
It just takes time to gain confidence pushing it and reacting quickly to control lift by weighting your front foot and harness line and pulling down on the boom.
Avoid going cross-wind until your skills improve.
It's worth persevering with, it's an amazing wing, 90% as good as any wing I've ridden lately.
Super-fast for it's size (23 knots), carves great and pops up in 12 knots.

Having said all that, buying new kit is fun

Mmm it's depending what you mean for high speed. With the right setup you can ride comfort around 20knt. With my freestyle setup I drive at 18 I don't need more. It's always a front footed thick frontwing. Probably with a different combo (like 370) you can go faster. Or maybe is better to valuate a freeride foil/front.

Wondering if 940 might be a better fit if less front foot pressure desired. I say OP orders both and reports back to us

Foiling slowly while overpowered is a good skill to develop. You can always get back home if things go kaddywhompus.

For freeride the SAB 940 is also my favorite wing, with the 950 a very close second.

You mean the 940 1100cm^2? On the Sab website is marketed for wing and surf only...no mention to windfoil... Is that good anyway?

Yes, the 940 (1100 cm2). It works very well for windfoiling.
