Hi
Just curious. I have an old 430 SDM carbon mast which I have hardly ever used. The boom clamp used to take my 460 cm SDM mast with no problem. Now, to my surprise, I found that that the same boom clamp doesn't fit the 430 SDM mast. The diameter of the 430 mast seems to be slightly larger than that of the 460 at the corresponding boom junction point along the mast.
Does a shorter 430 cm SDM mast have a different diameter distribution along the mast length? Compared to a 460 cm SDM?
Thanks

The bigger variations I've seen have been based on carbon fiber content. Higher cf tend to be slightly slimmer. Some older mast also used to have a bit of extra re-enforcement usually by the means of extra fiberglass wraps to resist boom head crushing.
A shorter mast should be less in diameter all other things equal as it is less stiff than the longer one. You make a mast stiffer by either increasing the diameter or wall thickness.
What brands and carbon contents are the masts?
