The industry is focus on wingfoil, and has forgiven that windfoil waveriding and downwind, exists.

I am glad to hear you comment about the 799 in waves, I have felt similar. It's crazy but 999 can be easier for me because the lift from the wave increases more gradually and seems to top out where the 799 just creates more and more lift. While the two wings are in the same series they do have different design features, I wonder if the bigger one is thinner or thinner as a % of cord. I need to make up some surfboard shaper plywood calipers that can reach so I can measure this. The 999 has visibly less anhedral curve, ie it's flatter when looking from the nose to the tail.

Simon, could you please tell me/ us something about your experience with the new Kraken foilmast? Stiffness etc? Do you use the quicklocksystem and how does it cope sand etc? At the moment I use the 85 Moses tuttlemast..maybe thinking of "upgrading " because of strength, stiffness and quicklock. In Europe/ Holland we have a good trade in deal at the moment.

So nice wave sailing on the foil, we do have onshore conditions here in my area in Italy very often but very challenging to get out with a windsurf; the wind is perpendicular to the beah...probably with the foil...Iwill give it a go next winter, I wish one day I will get to your level of proficiency...very nice...congrats

Welcome Krul1973, I was sailing the SAB Hs for 2 years (92 mast 899hs fuse) and have just taken advantage of the trade in deal you mentioned so my Kracken gear is brand new. I am not using the quick release but can say the mast/ top plate fitting is precision. Not very happy that SAB chose to go with m6 bolts to hold this together, IMO they should be m8 bolts.
Some of the mast/ fuse connections I looked at were "sloppy" without bots in. The fuse rocked front and back and side to side, again IMO not good enough for a premium product.
Compared to the Hs combo I was riding, I would say the Kracken is about 15% better ( hard to say why, probably a combination of a stiffer mast and a shorter chord)
David, the SAB website has a compare feature which allows you to select foils and compare them. Once selected you simply swipe between the various foil specs. 999 is 25.9mm thick
No question the 799 was designed for pop, and the fact that Balz is still using it 2 1/2 years on shows it's a great foil. I don't jump BUT I think for the type of freeride foiling I do the 799 is ideal. It pops up onto the foil easily, has good top speed low stall speed and turns great. It's medium aspect which makes it easier to ride than many high aspect foils. Doesn't mean it's perfect for everyone and as you have found the 999 has different characteristics which suit you better.

Thanks for the website tip, that comparison tool is useful. Sadly the trade-in deal is not open to the US.
So the 999 is bigger AND thicker than the 799.... The reason I foil out more wave riding on the 799 must be speed. Velocity gets squared in the lift equation. So while it's only a little faster it makes exponentially more lift. I will keep charging with the 799 but increase the distance between the sail and foil some more.

Just got the Kraken 93 mast 899 & 940 front wings.
Of course there was no wind last weekend (new gear curse). Looks and feels like a solid piece of kit.
Hopefully a session this weekend. Will report back...
