Once in a while, we get hit with dreaded ribbon weed at Dutchies...
Picking up 1 or 2 strands is ok, much more than that we can still foil but it saps the fun factor a little.
One solution - find a new spot
A weedy nightmare seawards of the wind line, mostly clear on the beach side.
SW 8-15 knots, gusty in the lee of the rock groyne (and 6 story container stacks) but the 76 flies so well through lulls foiled 95% of the time.

5 out - 5.6 - 6.2m sails, all on SS Infinity 76 wings.
Anyone else have weed strategies?

Cool "new spot" super fun session.
I do feel a bit sorry for the dudes on this forum that foil alone. Stoked to be able to share a session like that with other Frothers![]()
At one spot where I foil I've had to learn the hard way where the foiling "lanes" are and stick to them. Luckily with a foil the upwind abilities are enhanced giving a little more flexibility as to where you can go. Weeds are not our friend. The weed fins for windsurfing work quite well but there's no option like this for foiling (at the moment) -- and that's a shame.
The closest spots to my home have weeds close to shore. I generally get on the board, uphaul and slog out past them. Then I lay the sail down and crawl out on it and flip the board over, clean the weeds off and flip the board back over, uphaul and take off.
Excav8ter: Yes, I've been there and done that too. What a pain. Are we addicted to this sport or what?
