My good old faithful windfoil board is looking very tired thease days and am looking at a replacement. My my current set up is a Tabou 125 x74 dedicated foil board married with Sabfoil kit (deep tutle box) I quite like the look of the 2021 or 2022 starboard free foil 125x76 but it's a big chunk of money with out any knowledge if sab kit would work with it and definitely don't want change from my Sab quiver. The question to the windfoiling community is anyone using the Sab foils with the starboard free foil boards and what's the thoughts of the extended cut outs on the 2022 tail on the freefoil . I'm just a average freeride windfoiler don't want do jumps or tricks just play in sea swell and generally have fun.
Looking forward to some helpful advice. ??
I tried to scale and overlay to the best of my ability with the length (given 226cm vs. 208cm). These are the tabou air ride 125 and starboard free ride 125 based off what I could find. Are these the right boards? Can't guarantee accuracy as you get what you pay for ![]()

That's brilliant! Love what you've done there, it looks very much like it could work.
The over lay looks wider on Tabou than starboard but starboard 76 wide and Air ride 74wide ![]()
You are correct, I found a different year that seems to be thinner. Looks like the newer Tabous are wider?
The picture I found of the Tabou has distortion so I don't trust it as much.

Thanks again for your input aeroegnr it looks promising what's your thoughts on the extended cut outs on the 2022 ? Just a gimmick ?

I think there are more knowledgeable people than me on this forum in regards to that. I think someone here modified a tillo board by adding a cutout and found it made a big difference.
I have a starboard foilx 145 which has a more aggressive cutout and is shorter and narrower and it flies earlier than my blast 145 did with a slingshot setup, but the tail shape is also quite a bit different. They don't seem to be gimmicks to me. I also don't know anything about sab foils.
If you are referring to my mod, I tweaked the tail to have a straight exit rather than an angle at the rear in the style of many 1st gen wingfoil/combo boards. Still very happy with the results.
Can't comment on the 125 but a friend just got the 150 to go with his SABFoil w/w950 wing and he's a very happy camper. Not much cut out on the 150 but it gets off the water easily in his opinion.

Yeah! That was it
I use the 2021 125 and 150 starboard freeride boards with my sab foils, works just fine !!!
actually much better than with my starboard race foil !

Looking at the SAB website, there are different sizes of front wing and fuselage. Wont that affect things?

If Nerdycross has a setup which works on his board, like mast track position and foot strap placement, then those measurements, from the front tuttle bolt, need to be compared to the mast track and footstrap range of the new board.
Or am I missing something?
Aeroegnr compared some graphics from websites which is a good start, but are they actually photos of the production boards on sale?
If I was going to do this, I would get those measurements from my current board and ask either the shop you intend to buy from, the importers, or Starboard themselves, or someone who has that particular board, what the mast track & footstrap range from the front tuttle bolt is. Or even ask all 4 to get a consensus. You dont want to buy a new board then find out you cant get the thing balanced.

Very true. I sent a note to the guys at Windsurf Magazine to add the measurement from front of foilmast to front and back of masttrack to the specs they list when they review boards and they were enthusiastic about the idea and said they'd start including that measurement going forward, so that's a start. If you look, for instance, at the similar general shape of the biggest FoilX and the big Foil Freeride from Starboard you might not realize just how differently the boards will perform but the huge difference in front bolt to mastfoot tells the story.
