Hi,

I use a Slingshot freestyle 115 with either i84 or i76 wings and 5.7 sail The 84 gets me flying earlier but is so heavy (making the tail sink back sometimes after I pump the board onto a flight in super low wind) and I find it quite slow to catch swells and draw wide surfing lines. I have used both wings wIth the Tuttle set up. Has anyone used them in this board with the plate track pushed forward ?

I am thinking it might get me to fly earlier and thus use the i76 more (lighter and faster).

Will I need to move my straps forward to have my back foot over the foil mast ?

Thx in advance to those who have experienced this before !

Phil

If you move your foil and straps both forward nothing really changes.
I use a board with tracks (mostly for testing where to put the tuttle for the production series), and moving the foil forward greatly improves early flight and upwind performance. Reaching will be a little harder, and catching waves might take an adjustment because of the increase in power.

In most (practically all) cases I ride pretty much maximum forward for, but freeriding I'm often on a sail 2-3m smaller than other foilers of similar weight, with similarly sized wings.

I'd say try it and see! I think you'll get what you want from it ;).
Be wary with changing too much though, maybe 1-2cm at a time, you might want to put the switchfuse in the most lifty position first if you hadn't done that already. Having the mast behind the backfoot and only the frontwing further forward is more stable than moving the whole thing forward with the frontwing closer to the mast.

The i84 needs to be mounted ~3-5 cm further forward than the i76. If it is in the same position as the i76, it's not balanced well, and offers no advantages over the 76. Put it forward more, and it gets you going earlier, and will catch swell better.

I always use the tracks in my 115 with the i76. The sweetspot for me is a little forward of centre in the tracks, that's about 3-4 cm more forward than the Tuttle position.

This is consistent with my experience too (with 76 in B and 84 in C)

Another option if you cannot move the track forward, would be to move the mast track back.

Depending on style this makes less of a difference than you might think. Hanging in the sail is more of a racing style. If you are upright and dont hang in the sail (freeride style, with your weight over the foil) the position of your mastfoot doesnt really matter much for the distribution of power. Not as much as with racing anyway. Thats why Balz and I and probably others can run only 80cm from mastfoot to frontbolt. The weight isnt there anyway.

Moving the mastfoot does change the stability, moving it further forward makes it easier to not foil out, as you can use your sail as a sort of emergency brake, moving it back frees up the kit for maximum manouvrability!
