Slingshot Phantasm 730 review - first impressions
My First impression on the slingshot phantasm 730 windfoil with 103 cm mast.
Rider Set up and experience:
Foiling since 09/2019 with round 120/130 sessions on Slingshot Wizard 125 2019, Wizard 125 2020 and Wizard V3 130.All the sessions on the Slingshot Hoverglide Inifity 76 and Infinity 65. The 65 only round 15% on stronger winds. For some sessions also tried the Infinity 84, Infitity 99, Gamma 68 and some oft he older blue Wings with 68 and 57 span.Started foiling with round 92 kg / 181 cm height, now at round 82/83 kg.Sailranger from 3,7 to 5,6, sometimes also a bigger one when something unused is stored at beach at low wind ??
Using all the winds from 4 - 30/35 knots on foil on a little lake. Gybing, & duck jibes working normally smothely, Jumping also better and better, 360s sometimes and working on flatwater backloop.I'm really not an expert but really hot on foiling and that potential. And no, I'm not sponosred, All material bought by myself.
On the beach:
Unpacking the set is a real delighter. The 103cm mast with the big big board connector is enourmous and impressive massive. But this long mast needs to absorbe the forces from jumping. So better it's more resistant and heavier and stiff else light and more flexible and breakable. The mast is the core of stiffness and we have seen lot videos from greg and emily that leads to the conclusion in the mast they have invested lot of R&D.Also the impression of the fuse is great. Very massive, seems to be extremly heavy duty.oh this all looks great. Puting the mast in fuse needs a good pressure and then it fit's perfectly. But demounting is also very likely possible. So the next look to Front Wing. With the cover it seems really like a smaller Infnity 76 but unpacked from the cover you get another look on it. Less profile bit other shape. Looks like a more agile wing with really more speed potential but good stability potential. Let's test in on the water. The rear wing is mounted downside the fuse with two screws. That's it. But the mount looks also very good engeneered. So let's mount it and test it on the water.
ON THE WATER
Today the forecast is low wind. 15-30 kmh so 8-16 knots in the forescast. On our lake this means:Lot of time NO Wind and some gusts with 10/11 knots can come through. With my 5,6 Zorro from flight sails and the Wizard v3 130 I hope for some flights. And I got them !First gust was not much. But potential to pump on. So pumping like hell.I wanna fly this Phanstasm! In comparsion to the I76 it seems to need a bit more pumping. BUT reason can be also that the Foil ist o far in the back. I have mounted in the board that the mast is quite in the same position as with the Hover Glide. But only round about. Ok however, in my trim I need more pumping lift is coming and Wing was easy to fly. The system is phantastic stable. So calm in the water (ok real flat water) and no tendences to overfoil. It likes more pressure, more pressure in the sail, on the board. It seems to cry "kick me if you can" ??
In the gybe a bit less stable feeling.BUT I tried to do the gybe on full mast lenght. Never ever I thought I'll feel a so big difference of 13 cm !!This 13cm more mast length are phantastic but every needs a bit of time to get used on. Never the less fligth through this first gybe in low wind. And now from 103cm flight height the pumping ability is a completely new level! I used it and the sail potential as the wind was less. After sometimes of pumping the wing flight and flight and flight and flight..wind went down..and the wing flight and flight and flight. Increbile long it flight through a long lull.I had still some other gusts with 5,6. Everything not strong. I gues max 10/11 knots but often very short. The first impression is still the same.Bit later.when the wind has gone down. I took an usued 7,2 Hellcat from a surf friend. Mounted and took a lot of gusts with much more pressure. Everything very very stable, Great speed feeling, and also easy to gybe. The foil liked the pressure it got and no tendence on overfoiling.
My conclusion:
This Foil setup has got quite the complete stability oft he I76 and the agility of I65. I gues it can be used also great in high winds. Really nice manovrability and early lift with long long flights through lulls. This is really my lovely foil I'll update when I will have the session. And I'll also put a camera to the beach to se better how the system reacts.
Short Video from the mast:
Good to know these foils are finally available at some locations. It will be interesting to see if they are widely available.

Great review thanks Michael ![]()
I'm frothing for mine ![]()
I'll share also some photo's and review on the construction. Bit missing for the time for it. But I think next days I'll share. Perhaps today i'll find some time :-)
First I wanna give a short update from the second day yesterday.
We had Wind from West at a sunny warm 25 degrees day with core wind range from 11-14 knots. Forecast was bit better so I wanted to take my 4,8 but when I arrived to the water there was quite nothing wind. So I took my 5,6 Zorro from flight sails.
This time I took the foil more forward in the track box of the Wizard v3 130. I took position 3. Last time the numbers where not visible (so round postion 0).
The wind growed up instantliy when I went out in the water. As ordered for a speciific time ![]()
One hint for mounting: I just had bought some bit longer screws for the Wizard before when I had the HG. At mounting the Phantasm they seem to be shorter at the mount to the board is thicker. So I suggest to test the mount before going to the water. Perhaps you need longer screws.
Ok, where to start?
When the first gust came I pumped again. BUT this time (with the more forward trim) the lift came quite instantly. No longer glide phase as last time. 3 -4 times pumping and up.
Again came the great feeling of agility and speed. The complete system is so easy and nice to control that the speed feeling is different then with the Hover Glide. At the hover glide something is often wobbling / flexible that needs to get balanced. This is away....the Phantasm is not limiting the driver. The limit is the driver no more the foil.
Summary after yesterday:
Compared with the Infinity 76. The Phantasm is not a foil. The Phantasm is a machine a secret weapon.
Speed & Control:
Yes ok, speed is not the main focus. I had no GPS clock or something else, so everything is my impression. When your stand is upright it's flying smoothly, very relaxed with nice ground speed but not very fast. When you have more wind, taking the stance more outside near the rails, straps very thighten and long trapez ropes (30-32) and bringing pressure on the foil it's getting a very nice speed and quite as fast as fin surfers (depending what material they have). Guess you can kick it to 25 knots. When big mast is deep in the water my impression was that this is blocking a bit in taking more speed. So the trick is to hold the foil on 20 cm under water and kicking it. I still need to collect here a bit of more experience as this was very tricky on the infinty and hold the infinity mostly on half hight. The Phanstasm is not tending to overfoil at the Infinity 76 so you can lift it out more.
I compared speed with a foil friend just bought also the phantasm. It was his first session and also he was very excited. We tested one time upright stand vs. "horizontal" stand with pressure. And the difference was big.
Lift:
With the right trim it's lifting up easy and quick. Also in low wind. When you get a heavy gust you can take the lift very easy and relaxed without pumping. When the gust is away and you have only a bit of ground wind 5 knots or so (still 5,6m2 !) the foil is running running running running running...sometimes it seems to be unstopable. Everything with sail stopped on the lake, tube kites went down and the phantasm run run run run run....it was mysterious feeling and also when in big lull it came down as it came down very rarely. We had good conditions for foiling yesterday but on a lake 700 km away from the sea we have all times gusts and lulls. My impression was to have maschine not a foil under my board.
Manoverability:
Duck Jibes, Jibes, Carving jibes and carving is a big big fun. You can do it all. 360s also but my ones where not so good yesterday, my friend just made some nice ones with the phantasm. At the end of the jibe the wing also doesn't want to come down. Also at quite no more speed it's still up. And when you bring the mast far outside you have really nice way for pumping on and stay flying also in less wind.
Carving is a new area. It just made dozen of fun with the infinity, but with phantasm and the long mast it's a new level out of my point of view. The cut back can be done more agressiv, more pushy with more pression. Also you bring parts of the wing outside the water and slide with wing directly at the water surface. The lift is not breaking, every thing stable and superfun to stay controlled. Felt agile like the Infinty 65 with such better control.
Jumping:
SS writes it will lift the jumping skills Ok then do it. Tried some backloops and it's lifting out so great. I have not completed at all (I still haven't one completed), but I came out very high and quite completed it. I was so surprised about the hight of the jump that I had not focussed to much on the needed technique. I know it sounds unrealistic, But out of my impressions and that of my friend the phantasm jumps better as the infinity 65. I guess one factor is the stiff mast that transports the pressure better to the wing.
Pumping:
In the evening when the wind just went down a bit I tried to pump the wing a bit through lulls. No comparsion to the Infinity 76. It takes the pumping moves and generates directly speed from them. I tried several times and was really very impressed what is happening there under the water.
So I guess (and we will test it) it can be also a very good wing for wingsurf. Not as light wind weapon, but for bit stronger winds. But that we'll test and then I can give an update on what.
Yesterday I had a cam on the beach. Perhpas I can generate a short clip. Will update you.

Cheers for the detailed review ![]()
@azymuth: Sure I love it...after second day still much more then after the first day. As a lot things are new I need some sessions to lift the most of the potential it has. So let's see what things I'll detect at the next sessions.
One detail I missed to describe.
WINDRANGE:
Basing on the two days I had, the Phantasm Foil has a much bigger Windrange with this one wing. I think it's near at the windrange of the Infinity 65 and Infinity 76 together. Yesterday we had up to 15 knots in gusts and I had really no issue with my 5,6. Normally at such gusts I had more controll issues at the wing. Also at all courses it was very very stable and easy to control. No need to go upwind at the gusts.
Perhaps one weakness: At low wind I had bit difficulties to go strong upwind. I mean here the I76 has more upwind potential.
Nice thanks for the photos funny how that global shipping thing works,I live 3 hours drive from Slingshot HQ and no foils![]()

Do you know when in Germany other wings will be offered? I assume the 730 package is only available at this time.
Currently is only the 730 package in germany avalilable with the 103 cm mast. But thery are rare. As far as I heared the shops have not so much packs in stock.
I just asked also when the other wings will be available. The tendence is August. I just ordered also the PFH 58. I'm not sure how many wind this wing needs. Let's check it out in autumn :-)

I hope you know that the 581 is a kite or tow surf wing. The smallest windfoil wing is the PTM 730.

According to hype sheet it's wind and kite.
Oh yes, in the sheet I have, it's not for windfoil. Hm, perhaps the can ask Wyatt Miller how it is for windfoiling.
Perhaps only for crazy people ![]()

I'll try to get some more info's about and share when I get something.

According to hype sheet it is kite and tow surf. It was developed alongside Fred Hope. At 581 mm wingspan it might be too small. The surface area is 648 cm2. With the PTM 730 the wingspan is 730 mm and surface area is 664 cm2, which seems more stability and better glide. In the end, everything can be used but some are better optimized for the sport in question.
What is a "wide" mast, and why would you want one ?. Chord length ?, width ?.
Wide mast is the dedicated one for wind foiling. Details would have to come from michaelpaf.
Sry for late reply. I checkked the chord of the mast:
16cm but depending where you take the dimensions.
Why tha mast has more chors??
I don't know surealy. But what I can confrim is, that the stiffness of the mast and connections is the key of controll and windrange and pumping potential. As far as I understod the informations from slingshot the windfoil mast is developed for jumping and stiffness.
In my personal opinion the pressure on the mast and all components is the most ones for windfoiling. The direction of pressure is very different to kite and wingfoil. There the stance and pressure is no more sidewards. I guess this is the reason why a wider mast helping in all classes.
Some short information about smaller Windfoil Wings. I asked at SS and they at Wyatt Miller.
I hadn't seen it in the sheet, but the PTM730 seems to be the strong wind wing. Arrival unknown but as far as I have it tested I'll let you know here.
With 664 area it's quite 200 cm smaller in the area. I hope it's not tooo fast ![]()

Next session done on Phantasm 730 and some remarks out of my experience.
Why another update? Last session I had a completley other windrange what extended my experiences.
I was out again with 5,6 (Zorro from Flight Sails / my light wind sail) as the forecast went from low wind to stronger wind. As my main goal was to fly and not to wait on the water I choosed my 5,6 instead of my 4,8 (goyy bounce).
During the session the wind growed up from 9/12 to 14-20 knots basing on my estimation and the wind aneometer surround the lake. The 5,6 delivered tons of pressure. The gusts where not pushing to hard. When the gusts came, they came over the complete lake. And now the big surprise, when the water was full of white caps:
The foil was easy to controll as at 10 knots !! No wobbling, not issues with lift, no issue of controll in the foil.
The sail tended a bit to be nervouse but the foil was relaxed. The foil invited me to push the energy in the sail in speed, in manovers, in jumps, in carving in anything you want. No situation in surviving mode, no fear about stronger gusts.
Carving with the long mast is flashing the rider. The cut back can pushed hard in the water. The wing can also come out partly that you can splash the water.
I'm sure that in the peak of the wind also my 3,7 (Goya Banzai) would be able to work for round 30 mins. But we have a bigger area near the beach with quite no wind so I made the complete session with the 5,6. No fear about any gust! The Windrange of that foil is increcible. So I will wait still some high wind sessions if I need really another wing.
After that session I'm more convinced this set fit's everything. My impression was that I had much more controll than ever with Infinity 65.
Until now I have only the problem that I can not take the same hard courses against the wind as with the infinity. But perhaps it's also a thing about the long harness lines 28 - 34. For mext time I'll change back to 24 - 30. .
The trim on the Wiazrd 130 worked for me fine on position 3, 4 and 5. At the last session I had it on 5 and it felt quite balanced.
Hi,
My Slingshot Phantasm 730 is humming very loud, as soon as I'm out of the water.
My old Hover Glide Infinity 76 with aluminium mast didn't have this issue with same board, sail, ...
Does anybody else have a humming Phantasm?
And much more interesting, anybody an idea how to solve it?
Does it help to sand the stabilizer?
cheers Peter

My 926 phantasmfor winging hums quite a bit, which I don't mind as I have a theory it scares off wildlife. I believe many foils need to be "detuned" by sanding but I have never done it myself

I had very loud humming from my Phantasm 92 mast until I sanded a donaldsons trailing edge on each side. However it could also be the front wing or stabiliser.
In the past I've used clear Gorilla tape to work out which trailing edge is causing the problem. if you overlap the tape about 2 mm over the all the trailing edges you should find that the hum disappears. Then peel the tape of each surface in turn to find out which one is the problem.
My PTM 926 was humming very loud.
The trailing edges of wing and stab looked quite rectangular.
Looking at my Moses 873 wing and 483 stab, which don't have a humming problem, i found that they have a 45 degree trailing edge, on the wing facing upwards, on the stab facing downwards.
So i sanded the PTM like on the Moses and the humming almost disaperaed. There's only a slight humming left at very high speeds, maybe i have to sand the mast too, but the remaining humming doesn't bother me.
With the Phantasm it is often the mast, but can also be either of the wings. Follow this tutorial to cure any humming problems.
Many thanks for all your hints.
The trailing edges from stabi and front wing might have really some edges as Mario Legenstein said in his video that we should avoid.
But I'll start first with the mast and try the tape hint from simonp123 to find out where it is coming from - just not to make anything worse by sanding too much and wrong ??

cheers Peter
Humming (or howling or singing or screeching) can also be caused by a natural resonance frequency in the structure. I have an old AFS-2 that we sanded and reshaped and cursed and repeated again and again and again. Trailing edges of stab, wing, and mast. We never got rid of the singing. Now I just live with it. Have to.
