Question for the Severne Alien riders out there re board volume.
Beginner windfoiler here but have been windsurfing for eight years. Alien paired with the 1400 Redwing seems to tick all the boxes. Only question mark is whether to go for the 115 or 125? I'm 73kg and sail quiver ranges from 4.5 to 6.5. Will be predominantly sailing in 10-20 knots.
Any advice gratefully received. Cheers.
I'm 100kg and ride the 155 but often feel that the 145 would have been better in every respect except the ability to carry really big sails. One of the more skilled riders, around 85kg, at our local spot on Tampa Bay rides the 125, with either the Starboard 800 wing/115+ fuse, or with an ever racier F4. I don't think you can go wrong with either board, but do feel that the 1400 is going to feel very big pretty soon. I really liked it, but I'm a lot heavier. Very fast and extremely smooth to rise up, but there's definitely a top speed.
115L
I used 115L @ 80kg with sails from 3.3 to 4.8 in 10-25kts.
Would probably consider 125L if you wanted to run sails bigger than 7m and sail in <10kts.
For a beginner foiler a bit more volume is fine, 120 or 125 Alien. I have 73kg and started with 125, then 120 and now 115 and love the 115 for the easiness in gibes. Always on 4.4, 4.8 and 5.2 sail, sold the bigger ones.
I'm 85 to 90 kg depending on beer intake. I started on the Alien 125 and the Redwing. It was great to learn on. I happily used with 7, 6 & 5m sails. I upgraded to a Predator 110 after a couple of years and chase waves with small sails - 4, 5 & sometimes a 6. If you don't want to upgrade later, then at your weight the 115 would be the go. It will max out with a 6m sail

I'm 65 kg and learned on a SS114L. I struggled through it, but a 125 would have made learning a lot easier. Unfortunately windsurfing experience is of little help once the board lifts off the water.

Agreed and that is why i asked - I would give him a go on my 127L demo board with similar dims to the SV if he isnt gonna catapult tooooo much....

Agreed. I was about that weight (73kg) when I began and about 1100 is plenty big. Also, as others have said, extra float isn't a bad thing starting out, especially if your target wind range is 10-20kts. Board size as wind picks up isn't nearly as important as it is with regular boards. Volume is as much a function of the width you want and how wide the tail is for going upwind vs more freestyle/freeride oriented sailing.
If you are sailing in a true 10 kts. 125 l. will be easier than something smaller and give you some cushion when the wind gets light and allow you to use a slightly bigger sail.

That's a huge front wing. I'm 90kegs and started on a 900wing & 250stab& 130 then 145 board. . Check out recommended wings to weight to sail size. I'd think generally that a wing of that size would be rather slow. Ive not used that foil set tho. Try kit at your local spot too.
