Anyone with experience with the Sailworks flyer FR? Looking to use it as freerace sail with slalom foil and board. Looking for stable and quick. I have an IQ set already so not looking for that kind of capability.
I have the 8.5 Flyer FR and absolutely love it (visible in my avatar). I now have the correct Sailworks Lightstick mast but even with Mauisails CC 490 it rigged pretty well. Rigging is easy - you can either slide the mast up through the cams or slide it in above them, outhaul, downhaul slightly and then snap them on. I generally set the downhaul pretty close to max and just adjust outhaul, because at full speed and when pointing the sail likes the leaner entry. For true marginal conditions you can go with minimal outhaul/dowhaul to get a pretty full sail with a tight leech, but it'll never set as deep as, say, the Severne IQ sail can. Rotation is smooth and positive, draft is stable, balanced and pretty far forward - when I switch to my NX 8.6 slalom sail I have to move the harness lines back by almost 3" (7cm). It isn't designed for all conditions the way the IQ stuff is, but it's pretty rangy. I generally switch to a 7.0 Flyer when the wind gets to 15, but have sailed the 8.5 in up to 18 and a better sailor could probably take it even further.
I'm not a skilled enough sailor to compare it with well-sailed IQ stuff, but in terms of speed it'd be pretty close, especially reaching. I regularly keep up with the guys hereabouts, and was one day even able to hang with USA1 (Farrah Hall) on reaches, although she blew me away upwind and of course jibing, which she does like a machine and I do like a clown.
