I have a question about the SAB 899 or 999 wing, where maybe someone can help me.
So far I drive the 799 and 699 wing with the 399 stabilizer.
Now I am still looking for a wing for the lowest wind range.
For Sab the 899 is the "biggest" Windfoil wing. However, I'm afraid that the 899 is too close to the 799 (the 699 is relatively close to the 799, for example).
On the other hand, I'm afraid that the 999 just won't work for windfoiling because it develops too much lift too quickly.
Has anyone here been able to gather experience (especially with the W999 and Windfoil).
Setup:
- Flikka 113l Freemove Foil, similar to Severne Alien.
- Goya Cypher 5.9
- 75kg weight
I have the 999 but newer tried 899, 799 or 699.
I am 76kg, my board is Alien 120.
Last year at the expo at silvaplana the boss of SAB told me there will be a big 999 and it is good for windfoiling. As soon as it was available i ordered one. At this time it was listet for windfoiling. Do not know why this is gone.
It works great for me and some other friends. I have tested it with stab 450, lift is huge. I like it more with a -1 degree shim to reduce the lift. With the stab 483 it is fine without shim. It is amazing how long it keeps flying.
I was really surprised about the windrange. Biggest sail was the 6.5 gator, smallest 4.8 foilfreek. At very low wind i find the upwind ability is not so good. Maybe because of the flat wingtips.
It jibes well, but you have to put more weight to the rail of the board as i was used with the 950. Surprisingly it does not have too much front foot pressure as expected.

I have the 799 and 899 but have never tried the 999. I do see why you would wonder if you should just go 799 +999 and skip 899. The 899 has a very similar feel to the 799 and is just a bit slower and a bit better low end. I can get away with the 799 for all but the very marginal days and on those very marginal days my guess is that bigger is better, hence maybe thinking if you could only add one bigger wing go 999. I believe Kees who joins this thread every now and then windfoils on an 999 so hopefully he will chime in

One session down on 999 and its great. it definitely has the same DNA and feel of the 799 and 899. Its got a good upper range too. If I was going to only buy two it would be 799 and 999
I seemed to be able to do 15knots or so on 999 and typically do 18knots on 799

Yes, i use the W999 for low winds now. I still have the W1100 that has the same low-end, but the W999 is more manoeuvrable, and carves better! Both wings are good for windfoiling despite thats not on the SABfoil website. I think its because the forces with these big wings can get to high for the windfuse and mast when used by a heavy rider or jumping.
I use the W999 with the S450 and shim +1.5 on the M95 mast(tuttle), F900HS fuse, and S425 no shim on the M92 track mast and F899HS fuse, on wavesails 4.5 and 5.0. from 10 knots wind.
I also have the W899 (not used yet) and the W799 witch i really love in a bit more wind.
I weigh 85 kg.

Nice Quiver!
Did you use the W699 already? And whats your experience with it?
I use the W999 with the S450 and shim +1.5 on the M95 mast(tuttle)...
To be clear your +1.5 shim is for MORE lift? So you get 3 degrees in total?

With the different shims i can chance te front/backfoot pressure on a tuttle board. On my 120 liter board with Tuttle box, the 1.5 shim gives me the best balance in the combi M95 mast - F900HS fuse - W999 and S450.
For example: on the same 120 liter tuttle board, with the W1100 and S450 i use a 3 degrees shim.

I have not given the 699 a good try yet. I only tried it a couple of times but my board set up was quite different than normal as I was trying to go for a psuedo-race foil experience, that did not work out. I would say that it is very similar to 799. I need to try it on my regular set up to give it a thorough test. One of my mates swears by it though. If I didn't have a major bro-mance for Balz I would probably be fine with 799 and 999.

So if you write +1.5 shim is it for more lift or less? Still not clear.
SAB offers only shims for more lift.
I made my own to reduce lift of the 450, wich i use for 999 and 950.
