Hi...
Windfoiler at 160lbs., Naish 122 Hover and 70 mast length.
After 80 days of foiling with stock 1220 front wing, I bought a kite 600 wing and paired it with stock fuze and rear wing.
11-19 knot winds, REALLY stable, much more than with 1220 wing and smaller sails.
Moved setup forwards 2" to accommodate higher aspect front wing.
So....that setup is very stable, I wonder if it's due to the bigger rear wing [stock for 1220 front wing]. I left the kite setup rear wing in the van because it hums like a banshee and was unstable across the wind spectrum.
So, bigger rear for stability?![]()
I'm 190lbs on a Slingshot 84 and started out with a 42cm stab with 314 cm2 area. Got a super deal on a a 48cm stab with 501 cm2 area and got a very noticeable increase in pitch stability. Being a newbie I thought it was great, but an experienced foiler could easily argue that I'm over stabilized. To each his own!
So you went from 1200 or so to 600 wing at front - that seems like big jump ? Although larger stab at back - interesting
Thanks....
Yeah, 1220 to 600 kitewing. Not sure if I lose much in low wind, as I can foil with both if I can plane the board.
To plane, I seem to need 12 knots with a 5.5 sail.
how do you find 70 mast length - i am using 90 (my only mast) and wonder if shorter would be easier for shallow water etc
Well, I used 70 cm for 80+ days last year so it's second nature.
However, using the 90cm mast and 600 wing was just scary......rising too quickly and too high in the gusts, then dropping like a rock or rolling to leeward with my feet in the straps.
Failure day today.
Wind 7-14 and 5.5 for one run, then below 10 for 45 minutes. No chance to plane or foil with 5.5 in dropping breeze.
Racers were slogging on 7.7's and 1,000 wings.![]()

Just had one of those days myself - omg what a shocker.

I'm not very experimented with foil, I have a 65 and an 85. When you become efficient, the 85 is easier and much more fun...however you need much more water I met a shoal I didn't know in the river yesterday.... It seems to foil better and more stable...probably since the foil is deeper, better water? If you need to cary carry gear in tight space before hitting the water...the extra 20cm-30cm..make it harder lol. But on the water...deep enough keep the 90. I did not experimented in waves or swell...but I wonder if a shorter mast is better to catch the power of a small swell?
