One of my favorite wings which, imho, doesn't get enough love. Was sailing mine yesterday in high 20s and a ton of fun. Julien Bernard pushes the envelope of what's considered free ride wing. 10-20 kts wind, 7.0 Loft Skyscape.

Nice speeds for freeridey kit. I've got that foil and AHD Compact 83 as well, but a long way to go to get near those speeds. I'll be happy if I get 20 knots for 500m this year. I bought it last September and havent done much over the winter.

I agree, F1080 is a great wing, but now I only use it up to 12 knots max, then switch over to F770, faster and easier to handle gusts. Had some 20-25+ knot winds last week, used my new S670 wing with 4.5 Aerotech Phantom sail. Compared to the F1080 with 5.8 Freespeed, it was like riding a pony (S670) versus a bull (F1080)!

Now do not get me wrong, bull rides are a thrill, but would not want to do a foiling gybe in those conditions on a F1080.

Foiled the F800 in 15-25+ twice in the last few days with a 4.7. Handles it fine with lots of foiling jibes (and a few spectacular foil outs). Maybe we just have different styles - I tend to climb way upwind and then go deep down and back to enjoy the wind chop when way overpowered. Would have rigged the 4.0 but somebody forgot to pack the mast.

I'm about the same speed as you. I might try shimming the stab like Julien mentions and see if it opens things up. I"ll never be fast but fascinating that he pushed it to that speed. It's stable yet quite fun to turn at the same time. The stability helps in challenging conditions as I can focus more on what's around me rather than trying to mind the foil. For such an easy to ride foil, 20 kts, imho, is perfectly acceptable

Well, the F1080 is slow compared to the F770 and S670, I like speed! Yes, it is fun in down wind runs, but so is F770 and just more relaxing IMO because it does not react so much to gusts. As for shimming the stab., I have the AFS carbon shims, use 1 on the F1080 to get up easily, 2 will only slow it down more in high winds and make foil outs more common.

And check to see if your wing is perfectly parallel with the stab. (I use a camera to take a picture from the front of the foil, of the stab. tips protruding just below the wing to see if both tips protrude the same amount), makes a big difference in upwind angles, so from what you are saying maybe yours is aligned good.

Very nice - so good that others get windfoil downwinding, be stoked to see some video

Thats good to know you use it with smaller sails. What board do you use?
Sandman1221 uses a Goya Bolt so maybe thats the difference.
The other 2 sailors I'm learning with have the same AFS mast but 700 wing, so reckon we will swap to compare at some point.

Looking at Julien's track, he did reaches of around 3 miles long, which helps the 1 hour average. 20.93. Thats a good 1 hour speed whatever the length of reaches, with a 7m & 10-20 knots. My best on fin is 20.37, 0.75 mile reaches on a 7.5m, wind was averaging about 17 knots.

I was a bit unsure whether to start foiling seeing as kit was changing so much in the early days. But good to see what I've got is going to be good, once I've had more TOW and experience to use the kit properly.

Thanks- guess that means I'll have to actually get the GoPro out of the box at some point. It's also a great survival technique that I think is underappreciated by those learning - just how much more controllable things are by going deep. Riding those conditions was one big factor in getting it - the F700 just kept wanting to outrun stuff I wanted to play on.

Combo wind/wing board 125 l. 195x75 by a small US builder, Tillo www.tillo-international.com/?page_id=836 btw, I LOVE the handle on the bottom. It makes it so easy to carry everything.

AFS did a really good job, imho, given when this came out. I think the F800, especially for smaller riders is very similar to a lot of medium aspect wings like the Severne, Starboard SuperFlyer, SABFoil 799/950 etc. I use it for everything 5.4 and down (wave, freestyle sails). Shame they didn't come out with an "F850" for bigger riders.

With 5.4 earlier this winter.
