We had a mild Christmas holiday that created the chance to go overboard at the same time my wife was off work and willing to film. Still no foiling heli, got it sorted on land but I need more TOW. Please chuckle at the many crashes! That's what they are there for. I can post the crashes proudly because they all happened when I am pushing myself. I hope this entertains and inspires! We all can't be Balz or even Mr. Smooth but we all can strive to get better! Cheers Mates!![]()

Very cool. You get a new foil?
Have you tried other land sailors? That is the streetsailing one correct?

Nah, still rocking the Moses. I left my foil in the car at times during the summer and the heat got to the outer layer of cosmestic resin. I ignored it for a while untill I realized it was why I was spinning out so much recently. So I faired it and painted it. No more spin outs and now my mast matches my painted wings.
Yup its the streetsailng one from Jean Rathle.

This is not my first rodeo, I spent countless hours as a teen riding parking lots on home brew boards. I built a proper one for the ice when I went to Maine in my twenties. This time I was happy to buy one and I am glad I did. The beach is way more fun than the parking lots and the sand is softer landings than the street or ice. Foiling brought me back to windsurfing and now it has brought me back to landsailing.
KDog,
Thanks again for the sail! The fact that it works on a 370 has me needing only one mast to cover three sails. The 3.7 has been resting all summer but is seeing action now that the winter fronts are rumbling through!
Azymuth,
Thanks! It's hard to get the wave riding on film without a on board go pro. Thanks for all your work in that area. I hope my wife takes to the drone flying! My best waves are on a sand bar 1/4 mile away from the launch.
2keen,
Thanks! Yes, Fun! That's the point! I still can't get enough of foiling!
Great vid and some great moves. Looks like you are having fun.
Let your wife know we appreciate the effort, your right its all about the person behind the camera!
Great video, awesome ![]()
Really enjoy watching foilers ripping and having fun! As I've said in past comments getting someone to stand there and film you is not easy so I can certainly appreciate all the effort.
GREAT collage of clips. Very cool.
Has the street sailing help you your foiling/windsurfing? I have considered it...but parking lot rash does seem fun.
Thanks allesad!![]()
Yes it helped my short board windsurfing years ago when I lived in a place with no wind. It's helping my windfoling now because it takes less wind and it's warmer so I am rolling when I would not be foiling. On the heli tack it has definitatly helped. I have proven to myself on the landboard that I have got the sail flip sorted. Now when I get back on the water I am going to fearlessly focus on turning and ride height knowing that when I finally make the turn I know what to do with the sail.
Obviously falling on land is to be avoided at all costs. One of the ways I manage the risks is to keep the speeds under what I can run out, that way when things start to go pear shaped you can just step off early. It's pretty easy to get going faster than you can run though. I have some mates that jump halfway to the moon on their kites and they think I am crazy for landsailing, it's not for everyone.
Wake foiling has helped too! In the early days it really helped with ride height. Now it is improving my wave riding and pumping. I have taken my windfoil board and foil to a wake park many times. When the cable stops to turn the other way you are forced to turn a tight 180 with out any tow line tension. I started making my gybes shortly after I could make that turn at the wake park.
I have had my eye out for a beginer longboard to use for light air freestyle, that will be my next learning aid. I want to teach the basics to others with it too.
These cross training tools are fun ways to isolate and learn each part (foiling, surfing, sail handling) independantly.
I stopped windsurfing and cut way back on racing to focus on Crusing under sail. We lived aboard this boat for 15 years exploring the US East Coast, Bermuda, the Caribbean and Bahamas.
