I'm thinking of getting another wing to go with my 1150, I'm not after speed or earlier lift but looking for a more stable platform the help get gybes working and maybe something that'll help link swells (I kind of blast past most of them at the moment).
For reference I'm using the hover 122 and am about 90kg and usually sail in 15+knts on <=5m sails in open waters.
I'm getting plenty of time on the water but it just seems my learning curve has flattened out over the last few months so I'm looking for some "training wheels" to get a handle on a few things and start making progress again. I don't want to retire the 1150 but maybe a s26 1650 or HA1400 would help me get over this hump? Unfortunately there isn't anywhere local to take options for a test run.
I've got no doubts my (lack of) ability are the main thing holding me back but am looking to get any/every advantage I can. I'm not interested in going to another brand but any thoughts on the options Naish provides would be appreciated.
Maybe pair the 1650 with the 450 stabilizer.
You already use the 79 fuze.
Some foilers move the foil forward a bit to fly thru jibes with the backfoot near the front foot.
This makes feet switch easier and quicker.
I find the 122 kinda small, so maybe consider moving straps, foil, and sail mast base forward.
Had the same issue last year. At 95kg I could fly with the 1150 but it felt unstable and stalled early. Also lift could be slightly better. I went for the 1650 with the original small stabilizer and liked that combination. Speed is limited to about 15kn so after the 2nd year I will start looking for a faster Wing or give the 1150 another try. There is a review on gleiten.tv under the Wing section that gives some idea about the front wing.
Or...you could just add the 450 stab, get earlier foiling, glide, and stability.
Cheaper than adding a bigger foil.
LeeD interesting thought just going a larger stabilizer (the name is a bit of a give away when I think about it
), definitely like the idea of it being lighter on the pocket.
At them moment my foil is all the way forward and sail mast base and straps all the way back, it seems a bit odd but works for me - could probably be a whole new thread on my stance. Anyhow, wondering if the extra lift of a larger stabilizer would push the nose down given I don't really have any adjustments left to compensate.

I think what LeeD meant is a larger stabilizer will give you more lift, and so make jibes easier.
Yes, more left by driving the tail down, thus adding lift angle to front wing.
At 72 kg., 1150 1" forward, front straps mid.
1220 full back.
600 about 3.5" forward with 210 stab.
Sail mast base centered.
I added the 1400AH and 1800AH to the standard 1150. They allowed me to learn at a slower pace, using smaller sails. Both are a lot more stable than the 1150, the 1400 can be pushed pretty fast, almost 20knts was my best speed with that wing. I use the 1800 mostly in very light or marginal wind with a 7.0,my biggest sail. I also had the Hover 122 and liked it a lot, but felt smaller - around 100 lts, and too narrow in the tail. Now I use a Micro 131, foil mast is mid-way, footstraps and mast foot all the way back.
I foil in Sydney, if you are local you are welcome to try my wings.
Thanks for the info everyone and powersloshin thanks for the offer to try you're stuff, might wait for the nor-easter's to kick in properly and take you up on the offer. It'd be good to go for a sail with a like minded person, everyone around here is saying it all seems too hard so I should just take up winging (not likely).
Pulled out the old 1220 yesterday, I'd only ever used it with the shorter 64(?) cm fuse and the stabaliser with the vertical tail - the full WS1 setup. While it's heavier and a few knots slower than the 1150 it was much more user friendly and easier to cruise around on with the longer fuse and the 320 stabiliser than I remembered with the original setup, and compared to the 1150. I was gybing pretty consistently with only a small touchdown on the way around which is a step forward for me.
I'm not throwing away the 1150 but might stick on the 1220 for a bit and see if I can make some more progress.
Agree, the heavy 1220 is still pretty nice, especially with the 79 fuze.
I was hoping Naish still had a '19 1220 to sell, but they sold out....

I'm also looking forward to trying this combo as a beginner setup this spring here in Cornwall!
Having started foiling last year on a Naish 120 Crossover with a 2018 WS1, I struggled with the high rocker (higher speeds to unstick), plus feeling like the lift was way too far forward once up and flying (with the foil tracks so far forward on the Crossover). On advice I swapped to a dedicated Hover 122 (low rocker, foil tracks much further to rear of board) but darned illness struck in September before I had a chance to try it - and I'm only just now starting to recover my water fitness!
Anyway I picked up a used 2020 1150 setup recently with the idea that it would be my intermediate foil once I'm beyond the basics hence the chance to try the old 1220 wing with the taller mast, longer fuse and more modern stabiliser. I'll let you know how I get on =)
