In 2017 I bought the original Naish foil (1220 cm2) plus fuse, stabiliser, foil mast (70cm) and foil base which all fits with my Naish Hover 122L.
In 2018 I ended up getting the 1570cm2 foil with another 95cm long mast, fuse, stabiliser and a new base that is compatible with the abracadabra system. Naish had always said everything was compatible with newer models. Yesterday I went out using the 2017 70cm mast with the abracadabra system (2018) and noticed a lot of wiggle room in the mast base plate and the mast. I triple checked the bolts and they were all tight. Then tried to put the 2018 mast in the 2017 base and it didn't fit. So it now looks like Naish changed the dimensions of their masts from 2017 to 2018, so that the older masts aren't compatible with the newer ones. Anyone else notice this?

My 2017 ws fuze does not fit my 2019 kite mast.
Still enlarging 2017 fuze receptor and fileing down 2019 mast.

I just bought an abracadabra base and it fits my 2017 70cm mast and the previous base fits my 90cm mast. It all screws together but I have tested for wobble yet. Plus it all fits the new 1150 wing and longer fuse.

Aba fits '17, as does '19 600 kitewing and stab.

Yes, the original 2017 yellow graphic mast extrusion is slightly smaller than the 2018 orange graphic and onwards extrusion. No idea why they changed but it means the later masts won't fit the earlier stuff. But worse is if you use an early mast on later gear there is much more load on the screws, as the 3 x M6 screws take all the load because the mast isn't supported by the upper flange or fuselage recess. Bit of a bummer really ??

I use cellophane shims, to tighten before screws are installed.
Just like windsurfing fins.

That's a worry, it must affect all new complete foils. If the old mast fits in the new gear it must only be the new masts that are different. It would be interesting to compare with accurate callipers or micrometer.

Thanks for the info all. Hmmm, looks like I might need a new 70 cm mast. Yeah, bummer.

You got me worried so I unscrewed the Abracadabra fitting from the yellow mast and you are right, it rattles around. I shimmed it with double strips of beer can on each side.

I had the same issue with Gong mast and fuselages made around that same time frame. I bought them staggered, within 6 months of each other. The mast thickness difference is just a few tenths of a mm difference. It's enough difference that now the older mast is too tight to fit the newer fuse. I believe the Naish and Gong parts were made at the same manufacturing plant so it kind of explains some of the old compatibility discussions of fitting and not fitting between the 2 brands. i'd have to do a little sanding one the one mast will make them all compatible again.

Sanding and shimming, just like old times.
