Love the variety of winter and it's been a great season so far - but summer seabreeze downwinders are epic.
If you're thinking about giving foiling a go now's the time to get your first flights on the river and you'll be ready for the SW'ers at Dutchies. Heard that Jesper has got more Slingshot boards and foils in stock ![]()
Memories of last summer - found some new footage, added to some old ![]()

Awesome video. Amazed you're in the straps the whole time. Usually downwind I've got my back foot out (Wizard 105). But I was on the infinity 84, and was fighting the lift riding down swells. On the 76 now, feels like it makes way more sense for a lightweight like me on downwind swells. Super helpful seeing the techniques in your edits.

I was trying a bit of the Azymuth technique from another video posted recently when foiling last week. I'm on an NP Large foil and also feel like there's too much lift at times and the speed is limited. I think the next step might be Slingshot as the i76/i84 seems to cover a wide range of options and conditions for freeride. Great video (again).
From memory he was on a small wing (68?).
It will be interesting to see how wind foiling develops but my feeling is that going forward the bulk of the market will be in the freeride segment not racing. The sort of foiling you see in the video above. You can use your existing sails and only need a foil board + foil. I'm even going so far as to suggest there will be brands that sell board + foil bundles at a price that doesn't sit far above what you currently pay for a board alone. There will be specialist boards and specialist foils but for the average windsurfer this level of entry will be too high.

Interesting to see how stable the ride height is through swell from about the 2:30 mark. I would be battling to control, pushing nose down, sheeting out and often veering to leeward out of the back of swell, where azymuth (clearly a far better sailor) cuts straight through. How much of control is due to foil size vs sailor skill (ie in the same conditions with an i76/i84)?
I think I was riding the i76 on the wave at 2:30 in the vid - I wouldn't have wanted to be on the 84 ![]()
At first, it seems that the 76 generates way too much lift when you accelerate down a wave - but it's super controllable when you anticipate the lift and get used to foiling with your weight over your front foot. Having sail that, smaller wings like the TimeCode 68 and Infinity 65 are a little easier to control on bigger swells and in stronger winds.
Weight well forward.
