Has anyone tried either of : -

boards.co.uk/news/foiling-fever-kai-lenny-foiling-sup.html

boards.co.uk/news/stunning-horue-hydrofoil-windsurfing.html

If you have, what's it like ?

The supping gives new meaning to the term magic carpet ride.

You might want to check out some of the threads in the general forum. It's quite extensive.

Never tried but it looks like the technology / technique is getting closer and closer to routine all the time... windsurfing should be a natural because of the ability to get speed up from the sail => massive possibilities for light-wind wave sailing???

Here's Kai Lenny foil-surfing. Check out his run from one wave to the one following it!

Looks like an interesting concept to try, but I presume foiling is only practical at spots where there is no weed ?

Now that's a magic carpet ride.

And energy saving.

That'd be different. Easier or harder than the board being on the water / wave I wonder ??

Maybe less effort getting out the back on light wind days ??

Maybe they've got a weed hydrofoil ? Razor sharp ? Probably not.

all that pumping of the board would wear you out. Im not a surfer but your fitness would have to be right up there to get the most out of it.

Low tide reef breaks migh be out of the question

at >$2000 dollars for the foils I don't think most of us would
A: want one
B: be willing to pay for it.

Personally I think it looks like one of the lamest things I've seen in surfing

Agree with Jamie Mitchell..open ocean only.
This what happens in local surf breaks.

Another couple months and Slingshot will have cheaper alloy foils for windsurfers on the market . They are talking 900us with 3 different length masts 15 24 and 35 to learn your way up on.
?? Will have both Tuttle and powerbox options.
the alloy can apparently take some grounding a bit unlike the carbon ones.
and Jay if ya hook weed you will know because they won't fly at all. About 8 knots board speed to fly.
