I'd been wondering for a while about chasing max glide downwind on a proper high aspect wing.
Would it work? Would it turn?
After one session here's a quick review.
It glides as I'd hoped, super-efficient flying deep downwind, I can keep going deep longer than with my other wings.
Tends to straighten up half way thru turns but I expect I can get used to it and apply more pressure on the rail.
Doesn't get up on foil particularly easily - I guess there is no substitute for chord for early lift.
Roll stability is fine, pitch control was ok in the first session (max gusts were 20 knots) - could be harder work in big conditions.
Carving is as good as my 920cm2 wing
Initial thoughts are that it will be a weapon in medium (15-25 knots) ocean downwind conditions
Interested if others have tried wings over 10 aspect ratio for carving/downwinding ![]()

Been windfoiling on a AFS 800 wing. The glide is unreal and turns super smooth

Stoked to see you're still windfoiling - how does it feel after winging and SUP downwinding ?

JJ, i haven't dinged in the last 18months. Been having more fun in freeride and race windfoil set ups. I still SUP DW when conditions are good. K bay is a glamor spot to windfoil

Wow, that thing looks like a steak knife![]()
. Being on an inland lake I "assume" downwinding means riding swell ?. I actually experienced swell for the first time in friday in a storm. Unfortunately it took 50 knot winds to generate >1 meter swell. There was no foiling, just me holding onto my rig to keep it from cart wheeling. When it tapered off into the mid 30's, I was able to water start while there was still swell, but it was so deep i was clipping the top of the waves and my 103 mast wasn't long enough ![]()
