I'm headed to Caberete tomorrow for a week. When I used to go there regularly 15-20 years ago, I would always rent my windsurfing gear from Vela Cabarete. I'm taking my wife (not a windsurfer) and my 18 year old daughter.

I'd like to work on my (rudimentary) windfoiling skills, and hopefully try winging too.

With my daughter, I think she might enjoy learning to windsurf, and possibly winging. Understand that pretty much by definition, any ideas I might have are generally bad ideas, and what I think is cool probably isn't cool. But I thought that learning the basics of windsurfing might be a good foundation for her to apply to other skills like windfoiling or winging.

So if any of you have any recent experience windfoiling or winging in Cabarete, I would appreciate any suggestions with regards to vendors to rent equipment from and instructors to teach my daughter.

I was there about 2y ago; not a lot of foil gear around at Vela at that time; I brought my own foil and used their only "decent" foil board (a slightly older JP 135 if I recall correctly). You'll find more windsurf/wing foil options. It's generally lighter (and flatter) in the morning, and gradually winder (and choppier) throughout the afternoon. It's not particularly beginner friendly compared to some other places (shifty/gusty near shore, choppy further out, and then swell and breaking waves over the reef) but doable, and it is consistently windy.

Be sure to call them first to see whether they have windfoiling gear. They will have wingfoiling gear, but Vela seems to be a tad unenthused about sail foiling. A friend of mine was down at Vela in Baja last week. They had only one foil set (i76) for sail foiling, but plenty of gear for wing foiling.

If your daughter wants to try winging don't bother getting her into windsurfing, they really don't overlap.
