Does anybody know if the manufacturers are redesigning foot straps for foiling.
Looking at the injury stats with Windsurf foiling this area keeps been high lighted.
I have decided to set my foot straps to the same dimensions as I would under normal windsurfing slapping .
Having your foot jammed into the foot strap when you are in a bad situation after a foiling deviation is not fun and some wind foiling pilots have had serious injuries.
Anybody with a solution to this problem - apart from do not crash when foiling.

any numbers to share ?
My feeling with foiling & straps is more that they are not in the optimal position on standard boards.
I don't agree with LeeD, I set my rear straps on the far end of each position, makes them flat and wide to move your foot in them, as for special straps a few guys here use kite straps (wide) I use the freestyleTrickstraps. wide ; comfy and expensive
JIC.. I spotted this after running into same problem -- (Robert from Blue Planet Surf being generous with his knowledge)
So.. If you DIY this may help.. (if nothing else it is a nice watch)
I had trouble sourcing a block of EVA locally - so ended up sticking 4 layers together of softer compound which I could hack-saw but not easily sand.. the trial chop job plus 2 screw holes took 20 minutes
(not fine art - but first effort went well - kite foil board - a bit lighter to yours)
I have just been alerted to Knauf insulation foam Board which will probably do the job that EVA in the video does..
For Bunnings $20-25 you will be able to get a generous sheet 50 mm thick which will be good for at least 20 prototypes..
I am about to build a quick proof of concept board (kite-foil) and will have off-cuts to use for foot hooks - so will report back if the strength is there to just cut drill and use on the board.with no further fuss.
I was Thinking a strap with one side of a strap secured with the standard screw,
but the other side secured with Velcro in a manor that makes side-angle pulling break away easy but more vertical pulling have more strength.
It seems like it xould be doable.
For my freestyle foilboard I use kitestraps in front (those really big ones) and regular dakine primos in the back. I have both holespacing set to 14.5, which is a little narrower than standard, and the backstraps fairly high, so a little more of a C shape compared to the standard D ahape most people use. This allows my foot to be stuck, but release when twisted, for race I have my straps similar to slalom, but I practically never crash going straight or during the jibes anymore.
