Trying to choose between these 2 sails. The FoilGlide 7.0 would be rigged on an old Arrows constant curve 90% SDM that hasnt seen a lot of use, and the F.Type 6.8 on a constant curve Unifiber 80% RDM. Looking at the Unifiber mast bend chart it looks like Duotone RDMs are bang in the middle of the Unifiber Constant curve chart.
Both seem to get good reviews on previous post, although there are some who have hated the F.Type. I cant stretch to a new mast for either.
Oh and I can get the F.Type for 35% less!
Views? Thanks
I bought a 6.8m F-Type. Rigged on a Duo 430 RDM and used once or twice. Also rigged on my Ezzy 460 RDM and it worked fine and looked better on the beach. The preferred spec says SDM 460, but I'm guessing that the relatively low luff curve allows for flexibility.
35%... money well spent![]()
PS. with that setup I was able to get foiling in the lightest breeze I've ever foiled. The Foilglide gets great reviews, and my experience with the F-Type has been similar.
Cheers,
Mort

Interesting. Thanks The Duotone website says 6.8 rigs on a 430 RDM!
Yeah, it does with 36cm extension. Rigs just as nice on a 460 RDM in my opinion. (Per pic) ![]()
Cheers.
I think even tho they are both largish 2 cam foil specific sails, they are targetting quite different users. The foilglide is probably targetted at slightly more performance users, who are happy to have more outright performance in exchange for a little less durability and ease of use. The f.type is probably more comparable to the Naish Lift Freeride.
Just looking at the photo the f-type it doesn't seem to have as much shape as a foilglide, and the foot is cut a little higher. It would go more neutral and the higher cut and heavier build with xply in the foot means it's more user friendly and durable. That luff sleeve looks pretty narrow so probably doesn't fill with water and easier to uphaul. It also doesn't have much luff curve so probably still easy to rig.
Looks like a super mellow easy to use sail. With some pumping technique you probably wouldn't lose much early planing either. The foilglide has a lot more shape and is always "on". I'd imagine the foilglide is quicker and would sail better angles upwind/downwind. The foilglide pulls like a truck all the time, and often even around 10kts you don't really need to pump much just hook in and give the foil a bit of a wiggle.
I'd say considering prices and existing masts the f.type makes more sense for you. No idea if an arrows sdm would work well in the foilglide.
The Foilglide does seem very popular, several locals have them and are happy with them. However the construction is extremely light weight, perhaps best described as flimsy. I saw one that looked like it was 3 years old, but it was less then 12 months old. On the other hand the F-type has a more solid feel to it. I recall reading about some rigging issues as apparently it was advertised for use with SDM or RDM. I have only seen it rigged on RDM and it looked fine.
IMO if the f-type is cheaper then that is the way to go. However first have a look at the Loft Skyscape which is somewhat more performance orientated and will cost you a little more.

Maybe foil sails get used 3 times more than normal![]()

Swoosh, you're spot on with your comments. I haven't seen or tried a FoilGlide.
I'm a freeride foiler, JP135 and NP Glide Foil, so suits this setup nicely.
