Hi All
I had my first session today on my Starboard Carve 114 , Aluminium Freeride foil and 6.0 Severene Turbo sail. I must say it was amazing and I now get the whole feeling of flying like a bird!! One question though, at times the foil came completely out of the water causing me to crash. What am I doing wrong here?
Cheers
Steve

That's just the SNAFU part of learning how to balance it and do smaller movements.

You crash better with more experience

The more you lean back towards the rear of the board or the faster you go the more lift you generate from the foil til it breaches the water. The tricky part is to learn when you're getting too close to the top of the water so you can shift your weight forward or open the sail to reduce lift and avoid breaching. Most foils make a gurgling sound when they get close to the top of the water, so listen out for a different sound if you're not sure visually. :)

If you are too high, let off the sail power and shift your weight ever so slightly forward. Foiling is about very small movements - and even moving your hand up or down the boom a bit can make a difference. Experiment and see how changing things affects flight.

As mentioned before, NEVER let go of the boom in a crash. That makes it highly likely the foil is away from you when you go in. You may also find it helpful to remove the rear straps when you first get going. Keep at it, it keeps on getting more fun. After a while, you really become accustomed to the quiet and a planing board will sound loud to you.

Thanks Paducah. I didn't know not to let go of the boom in a crash, so that's a great tip
