Completely confused..... what dimensions is deep tuttle because it seems some are deeper than others??!
I have bought 2 "deep tuttle" fins to make a mold for my foil board but the 1 is 90mm deep whilst the other is 67mm deep? Both are deeper than a Tuttle.
What size should a foil box be?
J Shapes sells two. 75mm or 100mm. I guess you choose the size depending on your board thickness and the type of tuttle head your foil has.

The top of the box gets bonded to the deck of your board.
The deep tuttle head shouldn't go all the way to the top of the box. It should go into the taper and wedge into place.
What's the size on the foil you have?
I have a jp 150 (board), and i've got to say, im slightly disappointed that ive had to manufacture a wedge to make sure the foil doesn't
a: move whilst im foiling
b: bury itself in the box and crack it.
My previous foil board, a jp 135 oddly enough, the foil descended and locked into the box solidly. Im not sure why they've decided to change the depth of the box to something deeper than most foils are, but its frustrating.
going off what you've stated, and what i've found, i'd say 67 is what most foils will fit.

This ensures that the vertical lifting load from the foil will be carried by both the front wall of the box and the bottom wall of the box.
Yes.... So 67.5mm is what I thought was a deep Tuttle.... Turns out a whole bunch of foil producers decided that a 90mm foil was also a great way to confuse the daylights out of everybody.
I am making a foil board with rail mounts but I wanted to add a pvc reinforced deep Tuttle box like the starboard one above. I ordered an old deep Tuttle fin for my mold. When I measured it, it was 90mm deep

After all these years we still don't have a standard. What happens if you order a deep Tuttle foil for your deep Tuttle board and it turns out to be a DEEP DEEP Tuttle?

How do you fit a tapered shape into a rectangular box? Sorry if I'm being stupid

Most "deep, deep" tuttles have the inserts at the regular location so all you have to do is trim down the top of the foil as needed. Many of the high volume race foil boards are very fat in the back, e.g. the Starboard 177. Lots of room for a longer head.
