Jonah gliding down the line in a slightly offshore (NNE) 12 knots ![]()
Hand held video camera from a distance so it's a bit jumpy ![]()
Have to say, it's stacks more fun doing it than it looks ![]()
Now thats what I am talking about!!! Great video and great riding.
The foil turns those ****ty windsurfing days into so much fun. Those smaller waves and swells feel twice the size on the foil. A foil designer explained that feeling is because a foil accelerates 40% faster down a wave than a board/fin. Until you start riding waves/swells on a windfoil you don't realize how much fun even the outside swell is to ride and with the wind close to 90 degrees to the wave you can turn both ways.
With slightly off shore wind I find it easier to move down the line and climb the wave for the heel side carve making the heel side carve more fun. However for me its more difficult to to climb the wave for that first toe side carve as you end up pointing into the wind too much. Do you find the same thing?
Love it! I have been enjoying similar conditions and rides lately. I love the feeling of pumping down the line like a surfer (legs and foil not sail) completely out running the wind and having the sail go slack then cutting back hard onto the wind and the sail lights back up. I'll take 10-15 knots with swell any day! Great sailing Jonah and thanks for filming/editing/posting JJ!
I know a lot of people dont have access to swell but for me this is what foiling is about. Bugger going fast on flat water riding swell is what foils are made for. Its so much fun....

Ya, that would be me.. So high speed carving for me is where it's at. I dont go out unless its >18 knots. That swell riding sure looks fun. Maybe someday...
