Howdy, is it possible to fit a coverter box or reinforce an isonic board or similar with a tuttle to use a go foil deep tuttle? Does a go foil with the deep tuttle fit a windsurfing board tuttle? Sorry if its a dumb question thats already been answered. I would like to give windsurfing foiling a go with my sup foils first before shelling out thousands for a dedicated windsurf set up. Not sure if i will be bored with it. Ta

Thanks Russ, yes he has a Naish which is a twin US box system. My sup foil is deep tuttle. Cheers!

Moses Foils use a standard-tuttle box, which includes a flange/plate to spread the load... maybe you dont need to reinforce.

There is a converter which adapts a flat plate to a plain tuttle that you might take a look at: www.windance.com/PowerPlate-Complete-w-Powerbo/41722/

LP Foils in the US also make a regular tuttle compatible foil: www.lpfoils.com/product-page/frs-series-windsurf

Plenty of foil company's offer deep tuttle.
Suggest you reinforce your finbox with woodies.
A power plate can work, but has anyone used it multiple days? Mine works fine with Naish foil to PB, but I'm light and only used it 2 days.
For a slalom board, maybe add woodies and 2 layers of fiberglass around the box in a diamond shape.
Straps inboard might depend on wing width and your weight/skill.

I use an isonic 121 with only slight change to accomodate the 10mm bolts used by slingshot.

many catapults and no damage (to the box)... yet!

i am VERY curious about this "damage to the box" fear

so far have only heard of one documented case
and one case where the catapault sliced the nose on a Formula board

others ??

We seldom hear of even 15% of all the cases even if we work in the industry and constantly talking to the main players.
But we do know the safe fin length limit is around 75 cms for deep tuttle.
Now consider...foils are wider in chord, sometimes longer, and use the deep tuttle design.
Slalom boards are made as lightweight as possible and designed for the recommended fin size.

I was in your exact situation and decided to just buy a tuttle box foil with a plate to distribute the load instead of doing the conversion. But I imagine you'd have deep tuttle SUP foils only so that is not an option.

From my research:
1) Deep tuttle is an extension of tuttle, theoretically then you could 'extend' the tuttle into a deep version with a router:

Also there is a video about the 3 (confusing) types:

I think the biggest concern with this conversion approach would be to ensure the new box is watertight.

2) From what I saw the breakages often occur when the heads of the screws pull through the board, so adding a large washer plate to the top of the board would prevent this and distribute the load well. Lots of slalom boards have screw holes which you don't want.

3) Many foils seem to have plates at the bottom to distribute the load, seems just in front of the leading edge is the most important for this.

Interested to see what you end up doing, any shaper with a router would be able to do my idea quite easily!

Ahh the metric system... if only the Larry Tuttle wasn't American, then he wouldn't have made all the dimensions to be multiples of 1/8th of an inch. eg: 5/8th inch = 15.875mm

You might not need to convert to Deep Tuttle. I did this for a friend with a JP Slalom 78 (Deep Tuttle). It is holding up fine after a season of use. Beef up the whole tail area top and maybe bottom too and it should hold.
